Sept. 29, 2005 12:00 AM
Ever since Hurricane Katrina hit, the Republicans have been spouting about not playing the "blame game."
Then former FEMA Director Michael Brown gets before Congress and immediately blames the governor of Louisiana and the mayor of New Orleans for the disaster. His "only fault" was in not recognizing how dysfunctional they were. This is how out of touch the Bush administration and its appointees are.
Michael Brown should have apologized for the errors and delays that occurred under his watch. He should have begged forgiveness from those who died waiting for help. Instead he whines that he is being treated unfairly. People died, and he thinks he's done a good job. Oh, and by the way, he's still being paid while he "helps" determine what went wrong.
What went wrong was that Bush appointed a supporter with no background in emergency management.
What went wrong is that fund-raising ability became more important that taking care of the country. Michael Brown is what went wrong. - Elizabeth McEldowney, Phoenix
