The number of hurricane evacuees at Alabama's state parks has more than doubled in the past two weeks.

By Friday, about 1,371 evacuees were living in 517 Federal Emergency Management Agency-furnished mobile homes or other facilities on the campgrounds at 13 parks. On Sept. 15, 509 evacuees were living in 90 FEMA trailers, or at cabins, chalets or campsites in the parks.

Most of the evacuees have fled the wreckage left by Hurricane Katrina, but some are from areas more recently hit by Hurricane Rita...

Both Adams and Matthew Glover, a staffer at Oak Mountain, said some evacuee families have come and gone, but others have taken their place....
