LETTER: American conservatives no better than Nazis, racists?

To the editor:

Regarding the Sept. 30 story on the Nazis' extermination of 200,000 disabled, "physically inferior," mentally ill and other handicapped people: They had nothing at all on American conservatives, who propose to do the same thing except in a more subtle way by carrying out their dream of economic "survival of the fittest," "minimum government" and almost nonexistent taxation -- which would simply deny food, shelter and medical care to those without the resources to help themselves.

And although the article didn't expressly say so, I believe the Nazis also included the elderly poor as being "economically useless" and a "drain on the public coffers." Isn't this the way American conservatives view our poor elderly, even though they are careful not to say so outright? Well, how about their undying hatred of and opposition to Social Security and Medicare, although they couch these attitudes in code words like "reforming entitlements," "wasteful spending " and "medical savings accounts."

At least the Nazis were up front with their brutality.

When was the last time you knew a conservative to say, "Social Security and Medicare have been successful beyond our wildest dreams to prevent poverty among the elderly and provide them with a dignity they never had prior to the enactment of these programs"? I have heard many liberals say this, but never a conservative. Actually, a true libertarian conservative would choke on the words. (snip/...)

1. American voters love euphemisms!

It's not an invasion, it's a "liberation," it's not a massacre, it's a "military operation," it's not robbery, it's "confiscation," it's not a Crusade, it's a "war on terror," it's not feudalism, it's "globalization," and of course it's not survival of the fittest, it is empowering people through the free market system."

For example, many people with technical skills have recently been empowered to adjust their hourly rates to be globally competitive!

America is the only country in the industrialized world where EVERYONE has the freedom to choose their own doctor.

In countries that have socialized medicine, you just take your chances, but even Americans with HMO's have the freedom to kiss that HMO good-bye and obtain private medical care from the DOCTOR OF THEIR CHOICE, using their own funds!

4. You're kidding, right?
"America is the only country in the industrialized world where EVERYONE has the freedom to choose their own doctor."

I have health insurance in one of those socialized medicine countries (Japan) and am free to see whatever doctor I want.

5. Same in Canada
"America is the only country in the industrialized world where EVERYONE has the freedom to choose their own doctor?"

Does anyone besides the Fox watchers really believe republican bullshit propaganda like this?

6. But it would still have the taint of socialism, and you might get drugs

that did not come from American companies.

Americans stand firm in their resolve against such tyranny.

Responsible Americans avoid illnesses that are beyond their means.

You said "Responsible Americans avoid illnesses that are beyond their means".

Tell me how a 5 year old kid suffering from Muscular Dystrophy because of a DNA defect does that?

10. It is the American way, and helps keep US corporations strong!

To attack the American way of life while our brave troops are putting themselves in harm's way to defend Halliburton's right to seize Iraqi oil is aiding and abetting the enemy.

You will now present yourself, and your family to Homeland Security for detention and intensive interrogation, quite possibly in a pro-American country like Egypt or Jordan, to deflect the attempts of Enemies of the State who seek to spin interrogation techniques into anti-American propaganda.

The regime has decreed a zero tolerance policy against anti-American sentiment, both foreign and domestic.

12. Does that include my Nephew, jon, who is now a Quadraplegic due to Iraq?
He got the one way ticket and it came back to get him in the form of a bullet that cut his spinal cord right below his neck.

23 years old, now a quadraplegic for life.

Thank you Nader for doing this to him!

You said, "Only in America are you truly free to purchase all the health care you can afford!"

What about the millions who go bankrupt paying for health care, INCLUDING my parents????

11. Although bankrupt, they still have the freedom to praise the bush regime

They would not have had that freedom under Saddam Hussein's brutal regime.

13. That's because Bush is imposing single-payer on Iraq
If Single payer is good enough for Iraq, it's good enough for us too!

15. The Policy of Starvation will help reduce Iraqi's need for health care!

It is an overwhelming success in Palestine, where child malnutrition levels are already on a par with those in the Congo - and in only a few short years, whereas it has taken decades to achieve the Congo results.

Iraqis too will be able to at last enjoy the freedom that only comes when each individual is empowered to purchase his health care with his own funds.

16. Satire
Truly great satire is the one of the best defenses against the lies, half-truths, and innuendoes of those who seek to destroy freedom and democracy. And yours, ranks right up there with Jonathon Swift and DU’s own Shallow Throat. It seems that many responding to your post are unable to see beyond their own circumstances of dealing with loved ones whose lives have been devastated because of illness, accident, or acts of war. They fail to see that their loved ones are the frontline victims of those who put profits above everything. You, on the other hand, have thrown a banana peel onto the path of the evildoers. May they slip and fall hard on their a##*s!

I am not going to be fit to live with now.

A most sincere and satire-free "thank you!" from this humble Enemy of the State!

3. They do know how to use the things they disdlike
They also vote and more than the every day workers do. That is percent does. More likely to win I would say, at that rate.

18. Whenever I hear the word racist. I instantly think of Bu$h.
Usurping the constitution by going to court for equal protection under the 14th ammendment. To keep black peoples ballots from being hand counted. That was a racist thing to do. No doubt in my military mind about that.
