Punk Card Pulled: Murtha Humiliates Anti-Freedom Liberals
Punk Card Pulled: Murtha Humiliates Anti-Freedom Liberals
November 19, 2005
by Bob Newman

I was on the air last night when the House Republicans decided it was time to pull the liberals’ punk card. In a brilliant conservative stratagem that revealed to America just how spineless the Democratic Party has become, only three left-wingers voted for an immediate surrender to al Qaeda in Iraq. Those were the only three Democrats to vote for capitulation to Osama. It was a classic case of "put up or shut up." The Dems shut up.

None of the three was Rep. John Murtha, whose transparent stunt the day before in calling for the United States to lay down in arms, retreat, surrender and then negotiate with al Qaeda, blew up in the Dems’ faces for all the world to see. Murtha himself refused to vote for his own cowardly demand.

The theatrics were laughable. Rep. Harold E. Ford Jr. of Tennessee, feeling like a tough guy, charged Republican Rep. Jean Schmidt when, at the podium, she told the House of a call she had just received from a Marine colonel who said only cowards cut and run, and that Marines never do.

Ford, being a violent, intolerant liberal wanting to beat up a woman, tipped his hand very nicely. Now we all know how he feels about that whole disgusting freedom-of-speech thing. Of course, had that Marine colonel been at the podium, Ford would have known better than to charge the Leatherneck, which would have instantly resulted in Ford’s graphic demise. The wannabe bully of women made many wonder if he has assaulted and intimidated women before last night’s thwarted attack. I found it fascinating how Ford was vehemently defending a liberal colonel’s opinion but attacked the opposing opinion of a conservative colonel.

7. Isn't it valuable to study the opposition's propaganda?
Obviously, the author is either ignorant or dissembling. The point is to understand the opposition's talking points to be able to refute them. And to keep an eye on what's resonating in the echo chamber.

6. "Anti-Freedom Liberals" is a misnomer, and contradicts itself by defintion
Edited on Sun Nov-20-05 12:04 PM by ixion
Free and Liberal are damn near synonymous.

Note that 'Freedom' is a state of being free.

Synonyms of Free: able, allowed, at large, at liberty, break loose, casual, clear, cut loose, disengaged, easy, escaped, familiar, fancy-Free, fly kites, footloose, forward, frank, Free-spirited, Free-wheeling, get down, independent, informal, lax, liberal, liberated, loose, open, permitted, relaxed, unattached, uncommitted, unconfined, unconstrained, unengaged, unfettered, unhampered, unimpeded, unobstructed, unregulated, unrestricted, untrammeled.

So, 'Anti-Freedom Liberal' is a contradiction in terms.

Not that this would get through thick-headed thug logic, but that doesn't make it any less true.

8. Why is it such a surprise that Murtha didn't vote yes?
None of the three was Rep. John Murtha, whose transparent stunt the day before in calling for the United States to lay down in arms, retreat, surrender and then negotiate with al Qaeda, blew up in the Dems’ faces for all the world to see. Murtha himself refused to vote for his own cowardly demand.

It wasn't his damn amendment they were voting on.

Christ, even the author of the amendment didn't vote yet.. I don't know who Newman is, but he certainly could use a dose of reality.

Anti-Freedom Liberals? Nice try there.. maybe you shouldn't quit your day job.

11. I'm always curious as to who spews forth this venom and...
who his/her audience is, so here's Bob:

"Bob Newman, a decorated, retired US Marine, is host of the “Gunny Bob Show” on Newsradio 850 KOA in Denver. A ground-combat veteran, he is the director of international security & counterterrorism services for The GeoScope Group. He can be reached at bobnewman@clearchannel.com."

Clear Channel, no big surprise there.

15. Well, I didn't do much research - this info was at...
the end of his little tirade! I don't dismiss these right-wing nuts as readily as some others, because they DO have an audience and they vote. And it's living proof of "mainstream" media being taken over by corporate right-wingers.

12. "capitulation to Osama?"
The RWers lost all rights to play this card when they drew down from the battlefield in Afghanistan to invade another country with no involvement with Al Qaeda. The administration lost all right to play this card when GWB proclaimed that he had no concern for Osama.

I have never understood what Iraq has to do with this "this fight them over there, so we don't have to fight them here" strategy. Isn't Afghanistan sufficiently far away to fulfill this goal?

That theater was winnable, and we had considerable international support to depose the Taliban and do whatever necessary to chase down Al Qaeda. We blew it, and I hope Americans will remember this when confronted with this propaganda. I think we as a nation are coming around.
