U.S. Rep. John Lewis, for example, has been very blunt about his distrust of the Bushies, whom he accuses of deceiving the American public -- not to mention Congress -- with half-baked WMD evidence and disingenuous allegations of ties to terrorism. He and U.S. Rep. Denise Majette were among those who voted against Bush's $87 billion Iraq reconstruction bill.

Then there's U.S. Rep. David Scott. Although Scott joined Bishop in voting for a failed House version of the Senate amendment, he followed up by approving the $87 billion spending package with a speech that reflected no apparent concern over Bush's handling of the war. A subsequent press release blithely explains that he approved the funding because he supports our troops.

It's this kind of go-along-to-get-along crap by Congress that got us into this situation in the first place. The least Scott -- who supported the decision to go to war -- can do is register some misgivings about the way things have turned out and the administration manipulations that got us there.

At a minimum, he could note that the $87 billion for Iraq, on top of untold billions in tax cuts for the wealthy -- which Scott also supported -- will wreak havoc on our economy.

We already have one Democrat in Name Only in Congress; we don't need another.

1. Scott certainly isn't alone....

Look at the many Dems who supportedthe $87B. Look at howmany are supporting the Syrian Sanctions bill.

I'll say it again:

Why would any Dem, do anything to support G.W. Bush in any way? Those that do, are betraying their party, and the nation, and are helping G.W.'s "re-election" efforts. And, by approving funding and bills that will allow Bush and his PNAC henchmen to expand their wars and ME hegemony, they are selling out humanity itself. Why are Dems doing this?

2. Because there are still a lot of Dem-Lites out there

Democratic Underground is exactly what it says--underground. If you ask Joe Democrat off the street about the war many are just beginning to think it wasn't such a great idea.

3. Many Dems are uninformed

My boss, who is very intelligent and votes Democrat, did not know who Paul Wolfowitz is and had never heard of PNAC.

The vast majority of our fellow citizens are so enmeshed in work, play, family, and entertainment, that their notions and opinions are based on very scant information delivered via TV news and the occasional newspaper headline.

Perhaps our biggest challenge is getting the facts widely known.
