NY Daily News Editorial: Lies and videotape
Edited on Fri Mar-03-06 10:07 AM by brooklynite
So, Mr. President. You just plain fibbed to all of us, didn't you?

"I don't think anybody anticipated the breach of the levees," you said. But these late-breaking Katrina tapes make it clear somebody did. That was Max Mayfield of the National Hurricane Center, one of the nation's most respected storm experts, and he very much feared the levees would be breached, and he said so out loud.

Mr. President, you heard him. And now you've been caught in a shabby falsehood, which makes sorting out the post-Katrina shambles an even grimmer exercise, since apparently we can't count on you to be straightforward. It is not the job of the President to personally fill sandbags, but it is the President's job to listen to someone like Mayfield. Even the famously hapless late-of-FEMA Michael Brown is seen on tape trying hard to warn his superiors.

I don't think anybody anticipated the breach of the levees. That isn't true, is it, Mr. President? This does not inspire confidence and trust.

I specifially remember Mr. Mayfield saying during those terrible days that he had talked to "president" bush and pleaded with him to understand the enormity of the impending doom
