Mark Morford: Let's All Get ADD!
No one is getting enough sleep.

No one is getting enough sleep because everyone is so damned stressed.

Everyone is so damned stressed because everyone has way, way too much to do and far too little time in which to do it.

Everyone has way too much to do and far too little time in which to do it because modern technology has made us a thousandfold more accessible and more wired up and more media drenched and able to communicate in 157 different instant digitized ways, has given us entree to so much astounding information at so much faster and more unbearable rates that it has, in effect, compressed time into sweaty slippery little knots we are forever trying to untie as quickly as we possibly can even though we can't.

I think he's got some interesting things to say about American culture and expectations.

1. I think we've moved beyond ADD - We are a nation of panic attacks...
Our national personality has been an ever more severe case of ADD for at least the past 40 years. Robin Williams said it best (way back in the 80's): "Entertaining Americans is like trying to keep a 200-pound ADD baby happy."

We've moved on to panic attacks -- ignore the problems, ignore the sense of uneasiness, repress the fear, repress the rage -- and then every once in a while, "from out of nowhere" comes a feeling that we are going to die, go insane, heart pounding, hands sweating, can't breathe desperate for relief - any relief.

And that's what I think... :hi:

3. In the article he references "From Dawn to Decadence"...yay
If you want historical perspective,it's the only book you'll ever need. So many hilarious myths that we all though were true...busted. It read like a breeze to me. Put it next to the toilet. You'll wish you had constipation.
