New Yorker Mag's Hersh:US considers use of nuclear weapons against Iran
Edited on Sat Apr-08-06 03:58 AM by maddezmom
WASHINGTON (AFP) - The administration of President George W. Bush is planning a massive bombing campaign against Iran, including use of bunker-buster nuclear bombs to destroy a key Iranian suspected nuclear weapons facility, The New Yorker magazine has reported in its April 17 issue.

The article by investigative journalist Seymour Hersh said that Bush and others in the White House have come to view Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as a potential Adolf Hitler.

"That's the name they're using," the report quoted a former senior intelligence official as saying.

A senior unnamed Pentagon adviser is quoted in the article as saying that "this White House believes that the only way to solve the problem is to change the power structure in Iran, and that means war."

The former intelligence officials depicts planning as "enormous," "hectic" and "operational," Hersh writes.

5. I can't imagine
him doing this without Congressional approval...I think even some Republicans would not vote for this after the way the last one turned out. If he lone wolfed this I think even the moderate R's in Congress would turn on him. I am sure the criminals in the WH wish they could do it and get away with it.

It may be that the lining in the cloud that is "the leak" may actually be platinum. He's losing his support so fast, sparks are flying.

13. Read the article, he is talking to congress....
at least the ones that would be inclined to agree with him.

The ones he is talking to aren't really raising objections.

us if he was capable of showing true arrogance. Bush is a craven coward. If he believed so much in what he's doing, why didn't field some of those questions which would have doubtless be asked of him? He boldly, said that he would never apologise for the lies he's told and the lives lost in pursuit of his ridiculous policies. Though I would never categorically say he would never try something to get his way in relation to Iran, even he sees the writing on the wall. while watching him fly out of the press conference on Friday morning, I halfway expected to see a panel of judges stand up with placards showing his scores.

10. This fits right in with my estimate of what Bush will actually do:
Either LIHOP another terrorist strike on the U.S. and use it as a Reichstag Fire to cancel the November 2006 elections

or

Start a major war somewhere -- Iran is the "perfect" choice -- and use the resultant protests (more massive than anything in U.S. history if nukes are used) as an excuse to invoke a "national emergency" and cancel the November 2006 elections.

In either case, an already-in-place plan for cancellation of the elections would explain why Bush and his regime are not the least bit concerned about their unprecedented and steadily worsening unpopularity.

12. Hitler has come to view Ahmadinejad as Hitler?
My oh my.

It's been so quiet around Ahmadinejad lately.
I guess the Iranian Hitler will up his rethoric just in time for the Bush plans to be sold to us all in a publicity stunt, by the mass media.

The Norwegian mass media is ready, guess their US colleagues are looking forward to some headline material too.
