SANTA CRUZ
Military recruiters, confronted by crowd, leave campus job fair
Anti-war protesters at university block doors to building
Diana Walsh, SF Chronicle Staff Writer

Wednesday, April 12, 2006

Four military recruiters hastily fled a job fair Tuesday morning at UC Santa Cruz after a raucous crowd of student protesters blocked an entrance to the building where the Army and National Guard had set up information tables.

Members of Students Against War, who organized the counter-recruiting protest, loudly chanted "Don't come back. Don't come back" as the recruiters left the hilltop campus, escorted by several university police officers.

"The situation had degraded to the point where there was a possibility of injury to either a student or law enforcement officer. We certainly didn't want that to happen,'' said Capt. Will Griffin, one of the Army recruiters.

So a guy with 18 years service, a wife with 22 years and a kid with 2 is "Freeper Scum"? I've been a registered Democrat since I was 18, voted in every election, and served my country. What, EXACTLY, did I say to deserve that response?

Thankfully, I killed no one. And I take my Service with pride. Is there some kind of secret club I am unaware of?

Edited for spelling.

5. Now here's what's ironic:
Our state and federal constitutions enumerate our individual rights.

According to Thomas Jefferson in a letter to Francis Hopkinson (March 13, 1789), "a (federal) bill of rights (must) secure freedom in religion, freedom of the press, (and) freedom from a permanent military..."

The Virginia Declaration of Rights (1776) states that "standing armies...should be avoided as dangerous to liberty."

And yet you imply that my enumerated individual right to be free from government soldiers (as well as my right to be free from government infringements upon my speech) is guaranteed by government soldiers?? There's some irony for you.

Only the people themselves have the power to guarantee their rights vis-a-vis the government. Certainly the government's legitimate officers can't be relied upon to do it. And the idea that government soldiers will somehow protect my right to be free from government soldiers is laughable.

6. The military hasn't fought for our freedoms since 1945
Since the end of World War II, the military have been the paid servants of Wall Street, dying and suffering so that the rich get richer at the expense of the exploited.

7. When did they fight for freedom before or during 1945?
Wasn't that the year they switched over from Stalin to Hitler and set new world records for 100s of thousands incinerated in a 48 hour period?
