http://local.lancasteronline.com/4/22036Still, if the administration has made up its mind, it needs to pave the way; it needs a concerted media campaign to instill in the public both fear and moral outrage over the way poor Iranians are treated by the mullahs. With the “nuclear bomb in 16 days” meme, we’re seeing the beginning of the former. If we start seeing stories about how Iranians lust in their hearts for American-style freedom (just like Iraqis, right?) we’ll know the latter part of the campaign is under way.
Finally, Americans have to be made to believe that there’s simply no time for negotiations or a measured approach, that the threat is imminent — just as it was with Saddam.
After the debacle in Iraq, you’d think we would have learned to look before we leap. But I suppose that as Condi Rice said last time around, we can’t take the chance that the smoking gun will be a mushroom cloud.
Unless, of course, it’s ours.
