Mideast 'axis' forms against West

By Nicholas Blanford, Correspondent of The Christian Science Monitor Thu Apr 20, 4:00 AM ET

BEIRUT, LEBANON - Rising tension between the West and Iran is coinciding with the emergence of a loose anti-Western alliance -Israel now dubs it an "axis of terror" - spanning the Middle East, presenting a new challenge to the US's regional ambitions.

Centered on Iran, this alignment has hardened in recent months, analysts say, with Tehran shoring up old alliances and strengthening ties with countries (Syria and Iraq) and with groups (Hizbullah, Hamas, and Islamic Jihad) that share its hostility toward Israel and the US.

"The alliance that is emerging in this part of the world is a creation of Iran," says Sami Moubayed, a Syrian political analyst. "It wants to bolster its position by allying itself with countries or groups that can temporarily enhance its regional role and influence."

On Tuesday, Israel's UN envoy Dan Gillerman dubbed this alliance the "new axis of terror" following a suicide bombing claimed by the Iranian-funded Islamic Jihad in Tel Aviv the previous day that killed nine Israelis.

1. We know who REALLY is responsible for the creation of this alliance.

Nope. This alliance would not have been created if we had NOT invaded & occupied Iraq.

2. A mid-east "axis" is any sane person's nightmare.
But a mid-east "axis" is a PNAC wet dream.

4. if they're the "Axis," why are we acting like 1920-37 Japan?
a Hobson's choice at home of big business and their legislators, militarist Control Faction imperialists, and leader-worshiping Imperial Way fundamentalist-"religious" fanatics.
Overseas we fancy ourselves like at the end of WWII, helping Germany and Japan rebuild, when instead we ARE Germany in France and Russia, Japan in Manchuria and Korea (China--that is, Iran--coming up soon?)

5. somebody better start talking about "peaceful coexistance" . . .
and soon . . . with BushCo rattling their nuclear sabres, and the Middle East organizing in opposition to the West, can there be any doubt that bad things are on the horizon? . . .

the US used to be the country that tried to bring peace wherever it could in the world . . . now we're the country that tries to bring war wherever we can, and that's a disastrous development of historic proportions, imo . . .

Impeach Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld NOW! . . . or else . . .

9. China will watch and grow into a bigger super power.
Edited on Thu Apr-20-06 02:52 PM by sarcasmo
I am sure some will flame me for saying China is a super power. If a country borrows millions of dollars to super power Amerika, what does that make China, IMHO the real super power. W is destroying this country and the final destruction will be when the Decider invades Iran. WWIII here we come.
