Declare our independence from oil
http://desmoinesregister.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060430/OPINION03/604300329/1110

To tell you the truth, I don't know where the edictorial board of the Des Moines Register comes up with these pipe dreams!! This is the second type editorial in the past week boasting of alternatives as the savior of our society!! Nothing could be farther from the truth!!

Today, higher prices will force more conservation and eventually a tipping point where the alternatives are cheaper than gasoline.

The technology of the alternatives — be they ethanol, hydrogen or something else — will improve, they will become mass produced, and refueling infrastructure will be deployed. The alternatives' price advantage over ever-more-expensive oil will widen, and the age of petroleum will be over.

Our national goal should be to make sure that day arrives first in the United States.

The country that becomes the master of the dominant energy technology in the post-petroleum world will likely be the economic leader of the next century. Let that country be the United States.

2. They are wrong about alternative
It is just wrong to say this The technology of the alternatives — be they ethanol, hydrogen or something else — will improve, they will become mass produced, and refueling infrastructure will be deployed. as both ethanol and hydrogen cannot be deployed through our current pipeline systems that crosses this country!! they firmly believe that all we have to do is develope these alternatives and use the current pipeline system and everything will go proceed as normal... Its not happening that way folks folks..

3. Yeah!
I know what you mean--we talk a good talk, but for some reason or another we never see anything substantial! I have been ready for alternative energy since gasoline reached a dollar a gallon! :eyes:
