Does anyone else feel as though they are living in a parallel universe? Or at least a universe where the opposite of what you would expect to happen actually happens?
* subverts our Constitution with the Patriot Act, tortures people for information in Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo Bay, and gathers phone use data on Americans, and he's praised as "decisive" while Democrats, who rightfully oppose this unAmerican BS, are told that they "can't be trusted" with national security. Not to mention the fact that the man is given another four years to shit all over this country and its good name.
Even more rich is the fact that Republicans, who any other time would be decrying "nanny government" and activities that violate or subvert the Constitution, nearly worship the ground on which * walks.
John Kerry, a man who actually went to Vietnam and won several medals there, is forced to defend his part in the war and his conduct during and after it. *, meanwhile, who used Daddy's influence to avoid the draft and any part in the war, enjoys complete immunity from such questions.
Republicans, as indicated above, do everything they can to destroy the Constitution, and Ann Coulter accuses Democrats of being "traitorous" and "anti-American".
A person in the Press fulfills their duty of "the public's right to know" about *'s illegal wiretaps. They are subsequently escoriated - people say that this newsie, who told us about *'s violations, not * himself, should go to jail.
And finally - this happened last night - Qwest refuses to go along with Bug Brother and share its phone records with *. So political cartoonist Eric Allie of Chicago claims, in so many "words", that Qwest is siding with Al-Qaeda.
The Republicans are the real traitors here. They have played right into Al-Qaeda's hands.
When a populace is so scared that they are willing to go against their own laws (the Constitution) and values to feel safer, Al-Qaeda (or any other enemy) knows that that populace has been scared shitless.
Thus, Al-Qaeda has, in a way, already won over the hearts and minds of many Americans - those who support *'s unAmerican actions. They're so scared that they will do anything - even subvert our Constitution - to feel safer.
We could abridge the Constitution, taking out any Amendments deemed "unsafe" in a "post-9/11 environment". Then what would we have left? We might be safer, but the soul of America - what made us great (our freedoms) - will be gone forever. And in that way, Al-Qaeda will have won.
If this is true, how have RWs been allowed to call Democrats "traitors" successfully? By manipulating fear out of the American people. Somehow, though, they have managed to turn things around and level criticism at us that should be directed towards them.
I don't know how they sleep at night.
