Getting Past Katrina

Getting those in need to recognize that there is a way out, and that it's in their power to find it, is the best antipoverty program.

1. Why don't people just admit....

...that they just don't want to donate or help others? If the other half of the bible thumpers (some are actually helping and doing good work) would actually read the bible where it says to help others in need versus their convenient interpretation/excuse like, "God only helps those who help themselves". Seems to be this administration's attitude without a doubt.

2. Doubtful

that Juan redeems himself. I heard him on a Katrina special (NPR) this week and he was saying that it was myth perpetuated by television image that Katrina disproportionately affected poor, african american residents. He talked numbers, not impact. He has truly lost his compassionate side.

I've never forgotten how he did a day long Saturday show on the march to war in Afghanistan and how he cut off or derided any caller who dared to question whether the war was the right move.

I actually thank him for that. Realizing that Saturday, how alone I felt caused me to look elsewhere for news and opinion. I started coming to DU at that time.

3. I Tried to Read It This Morning

It was lame at best, and parts of it stank. Juan should stick to reading the news, not writing it.
