The Bush League (how low can he go)
Gene Weingarten is the Washington Post's resident humorist. He also thinks George Bush is an unmitigated disaster. In his weekly column today (Sunday) he compares Bush with three predecessors. It's not a particularly funny column, but it has a very persuasive conclusion:

We in the media are sometimes accused of letting liberal bias subtly slip into our writing and reporting. That accusation is calumny. We are dispassionate observers and seekers of truth. All we do is ask questions.

Today's question: Is George W. Bush the worst president in American history?

2. Worst President
Well Barbara Bush has one thing no one else has...Her great grandfather was one of the worst presidents going and her son is the worst. What other person has that distinction....Ha!!! Must run in the family.

4. Fascinating...who was Barbara Bush's great-grandfather?
I had no idea she was descended from any president.

5. Franklin Pierce
Barbara's a very distant relative, which I did not know until I read Bitwit1234's post:

So Barbara PIERCE Bush 1925- is a fourth cousin four times removed (4C4R) of President Franklin PIERCE 1804-1869

So not exactly a descendant of the 14th President, but there's a connection. Hmmm. Franklin was a raging drunk, and Bushie is a recovering(?) alcoholic... there IS a touch of synergy there.
