Stars and Stripes: Brown & Root to recruit in Germany

Job recruiters with Kellogg, Brown & Root are passing through Germany this holiday season for a three-day visit to Hanau and Wiesbaden. The engineering and construction arm of Halliburton has the primary Defense Department contract to reconstruct Iraq.

The list of jobs the company desires to fill is lengthy.

A number of “specialists” are sought in the postal, property, ammunition and mine fields, and traditional jobs, from cook to cop, are on the list.

Comment: Looks like the $125,000 package Halliburton is offering pest controllers fresh out of Houston isn't a sweet enough deal to keep B & R from recruiting outside US borders.

http://houston.bizjournals.com/houston/stories/2003/06/16/story7.html

The pest controller hopes to go to Kuwait and exterminate bugs there for the next five or six years -- if he can last that long. He will be leaving his family here in Houston.

But he expects to make as much as $125,000 a year, which he says is significantly more than he would make here in Houston, where he has been in business for himself since the early 1980s. He was recruited by a friend in the pest business who has already been sent off to his assignment.

1. these sons of bitches can't hire Americans???

reminds me of that article a while back, where the Republican party had hired a bunch of telemarketers to help with fundraising for the '02 elections. Sounds all well and good until you see that they hired them all in India!

assholes...

3. So the Repubs in Congress, Dub and Cheney...
Are paying Cheney's firm billions to recruit GERMAN employees to work in Iraq, huh? :wtf:

Is this supposed to count as "coalition-building", or something?:eyes:

Looks like workers in this country are getting screwed by Dub & Co. even when his favorite firms are actually HIRING!

B-)

4. Nope
They're visting US Bases in Germany. They want to recruit US Soldiers, not German specialists (actually they want those as well - but they hire via the subcontractor Siemens).

5. Correct
Perhaps to siphon off those that are anticipating job losses due to unaccompanied tours/unit rotation and the anticipated Army move out of Germany to Romania, Bulgaria and Poland.

Though why anyone would want to go to any of those four places voluntarily, from Germany, is beyond me.

6. This tells me something
It says that KBR is having problems finding regular civilians to fill the ranks of its needs, so it's going after all those soldiers that have decided not to re-enlist since the pay is much higher and many of them will see it as a chance to get out of debt and build a bank account. KBR's offers will probably sound very attractive to the troops that have been doing the same job for peanuts.

7. For all you youngsters out there
The AFC-CIO has been fighting B&R on American soil for atleast 30 years. B&R was the Walmart of the constuction industry in 'Merica. We beat em down and now they are now forced off shore where they have found a safe haven just like our own corporate tax dodgers.
