CARICOM could be pressured to renounce Venezuela
Ahead of Monday afternoon's meeting between CARICOM Foreign Ministers and United States Secretary of State, Dr. Condoleezza Rice, there are concerns that the region could face some pressure about its relationship with Venezuela.
St. Vincent and the Grenadines Foreign Minister, Sir Louis Straker, said he expects Dr. Rice to press CARICOM to endorse the United States support for Guatemala for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council.
The region has already indicated its support for Venezuela.
There are reports also that Dr. Rice might raise other issues about CARICOM's relations with Venezuela and Cuba at the meeting.
Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, has also reaffirmed that CARICOM would not flinch in its declared support for Venezuela, despite pressure from Washington and the on-going row between the United States and Venezuela.
