Academy graduate: Get rid of ‘Crusaders’ emblem

By Tim Korte
Associated Press

The 523rd Fighter Squadron's unit emblem features a cross, a sword and an armored helmet. The squadron uses the nickname "Crusaders" for its unit. Mikey Weinstein has challenged the unit’s emblem and nickname, claiming blatantly sectarian religious symbolism on the patches they affix to their uniforms. — Cannon Air Force Base

....

Mikey Weinstein, who has sued the Air Force over allegations that Air Force Academy cadets were unconstitutionally subjected to Christian evangelization, has complained about the 523rd’s unit emblem, which features a cross, a sword and an armored helmet.

“The airmen of 523rd Fighter Squadron ... not only have invoked the term ‘Crusaders’ to describe their unit, they use blatantly sectarian religious symbolism on the patches they affix to their uniforms and the official logo of their unit,” Weinstein wrote in an article for the Sept. 4 issues of the Air Force Times, Army Times and Navy Times.

1. The Air Force is becoming overrun with zealots, it seems
After all, your pilots will have few qualms about bombing civilians if you tell them they're killing the heathens :eyes:

2. The Air Force scares me
WAY too much pressure from fundie evangelicals at the Academy. One chaplin, ordered to investigate charges of religious harassment, resigned so she could go public with what she found, and how the Air Force squelched her report.

Those 'believers' can start one hell of a war from 45,000 feet, whether the rest of the military wants it or not. And the rest of the military will be stuck on the ground dealing with any holy war the Fundies in high places in the Air Force starts under bushco orders.

The Air Force scares me.

3. Basic perverted combination of death cult/religious crusade/ nationalism
that the Nazi used. If they are going to be the new SS, at least they could be creative about it.
