After sucking up to the Bush Administration in two previous books, Bob Woodward has finally come out with his “Dog Bites Man” story: that this Administration is a gang of dysfunctional liars.
In sharp contrast to his salad days of Watergate and “Deep Throat,” the latest Woodward tome required no secret meetings with anonymous sources in underground garages. Instead, Woodward relied primarily on sources that can be characterized as “shallow throats” — thousands of Goverment employees openly standing on their desks, engaged in primal screams.
Woodward also borrowed heavily from the reporting in the most comprehensive book to date on Administration policy in Iraq, entitled Tobasco — a rough composite of “Total Debacle Fiasco.”
Commenting on Woodward’s allegations that the Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld cabal cavalierly ignored both reality and sound judgment, White House Press Secretary Tony Snow called such charges “cotton candy,” meaning that they melt away as fast as imaginary weapons of mass destruction.
