Diebold wants to overcharge Maryland for printers, if demanded.
Edited on Sun Dec-07-03 11:36 PM by Eric J in MN
An internal memo at Diebold says that if Maryland insists on paper-ballots from the touchscreen machines, Diebold should charge "out the yin-yang" and "any after-sale changes should be prohibitively expensive."

Quote from the article:
State Board of Elections Administrator Linda H. Lamone told The Gazette last month that Diebold had given a preliminary estimate of $1,000 to $1,200 per machine to add printouts, or up to $20 million for the more than 16,000 machines statewide. She said Thursday that she could no longer recall whether she got the figure from Diebold or media reports.

2. Their memos are filled with
Ken Clark doing the same thing. Someone in the field will ask if they can add this or that and if so, how much. Ken Clark will characteristically respond: HJow much will the market bear? Or, I saw one memo where he quoted what sounded to me like a fairly hefty (read: outrageous) amount and suggested that if they still wanted it at that price, they'd be glad to do it. The respoinse was "no,thanks," and he said he assumed as much.
