Bush: I'd understand if Israel chose to attack Iran
Bush: I'd understand if Israel chose to attack Iran
By Yossi Verter
Haaretz Correspondent
Last update - 06:05 20/11/2006

The United States lacks sufficient intelligence on Iran's nuclear facilities at this time, which prevents it from initiating a military strike against them, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has told European politicians and diplomats with whom she has recently met.

Rice mentioned three reasons why the United States is currently unable to carry out a military operation against Iran: the wish to solve the crisis through peaceful means; concern that a military strike will be ineffective - that it would fail to completely destroy Iran's nuclear capabilities; and the lack of precise intelligence on the targets' locations.

U.S. President George W. Bush and President Jacques Chirac of France met several weeks ago. Bush told his French counterpart that the possibility that Israel would carry out a strike against Iran's nuclear installations should not be ruled out.

Bush also said that if such an attack were to take place, he would understand it. According to European diplomats who later met with Rice, the secretary of state did not express the same willingness to show understanding for a possible Israeli strike against Iran.

3. Reason #1453 why we need to start impeachment proceedings sooner than later.
This is getting out of hand....this administration wants to see WW3 start ASAP. I can only surmise that they are desperate to start a war that'll give them the opportunity to do away with the Constitution altogether. We ignore this criminal administration at our own peril.

30. I absolutely agree. If we do not impeach Bush/Cheney for starting
two illegal wars then what is to stop them from starting more? They must be stopped before we are in WW III.

The criminal scum of the Bush administration have not committed some of the worst crimes in the history of our republic, only to be removed from office through elections. The bloviations and yammering of PNAC make perfectly clear they have big plans for our country and the world.

Title: LOL - the great demon
City: Sydney

Bush, just come out and say Israel should attack.

This puts Israel between a rock and a hard place. Israel will bear the brunt of ME military retaliation, as well as world condemnation.

If Bush wants war against Iran, why ask Israel to do it?

Bush is a madman but so I Omlert and Leiberman.

Title: Thanks a lot George
City: Falls Church State: VA

Dear President Bush--if there is any chance that Israel would (and this is actually very doubtful) launch a strike against Iranian nuclear facilities the last thing you want to be doing is giving them the thumbs up in public. And it would be nice if the threat of Israeli action was not used as a rhetorical club in all this.

The world political leadership has descended into gibberish. It is as if we`ve all decided that, yeah, the morass of semi-anarchic blood-letting squabbling principalities of medieval Byzantium--that`s our model.

High five!

Title: THE LAME DUCK OF THE CENTURY

Bush is trying very hard to get people attention, this time by a very procative statement. But who are really paying attention to this super "LAME DUCK" of the CENTURY.

In a couple of hours he will came in Indonesia and taking a photograph with a president of a most populous muslim nation in the world. It won`t help either. You are falling DOWN, buddy!.

11. Rice finally getting fed up with Bush?
"... According to European diplomats who later met with Rice, the secretary of state did not express the same willingness to show understanding for a possible Israeli strike against Iran.

Nonetheless, Rice did not discount the possibility that such an operation may take place."

Maybe it's wishful thinking, but that look on Rice's face ...

19. Impeach ha!!
Our leadership is so full of themselves that they have taken the notion of impeachment out of the line up. Would be excellent if investigations uncovered serious wrong doing but unless the Congress goes full bore for impeachment from the outset in JAN (which seems unlikely) Bush will probably skate out of it. All I can say is try and petition Ms. Pelosi to reset the table that she took impeachment off.

26. Sacrificial lamb....
To prime Armageddon for the fundy loonbats.

I'm not going into the morass that I/P politics is, suffice to say both Palestinians and Israelis are being used by others states.

It's about time that the Israeli and Palestinian people realize that their only hope of future survival is self reliance and co-operation, and to stop reliance on outside governments that they act as proxies for.

But that would require a leap uncommon in the human condition... The ability to see past one's own nose, to see past their fear and anger.

What a mess.

Peace, Shalom, Salaam...
How my heart aches for it.

21. Spring 2007. Mark your calendars.
The military option risks disaster and gains little. Still they insist on it.
Like it or not, a strike against Iran is coming. Israel has the green light
to bomb Iran if the U.S. doesn't do it first.

If Israel strikes, Iran will of course shoot back at us.
I'm afraid the Bushies are counting on it.

27. Well, Israel has been going round the world trying to get anyone and everyone to attack
Iran. Maybe it IS time they put their money where their mouth is. OR they could learn to live with their neighbors. War would be a disaster, so perhaps the saber-rattling needs to end, Olmert.

Basically this is one of the first time Bush is admitting Israel will have to go it alone if they want to have the war. He doesn't have the support for it.
