No Cheer for the Unemployed
With a perverse sense of holiday timing, President Bush and the Republican leaders of Congress are blithely accepting the expiration of emergency benefits badly needed by the nation's long-term unemployed. This vital program ends on Dec. 21, crushing the hopes of an estimated 80,000 or more jobless Americans each week who will find their state benefits expiring. The emergency benefits, which provide 13 extra weeks of help, were approved by Congress early last year as hard-core unemployment became entrenched. The problem continues today as the economic recovery shows only a meager turnaround in job creation.

The repug's version of "The Night Before Christmas"

I think I may reprint this editorial and send it enclosed in a holiday greeting to every republican in Congress and to the WH.

Too bad I can't send it postage due.

1. What is wrong with these people?
This is reminiscent of his downing military pay/benefits after one of his great military speeches.

How is this supposed to help those SOB's? I, for one, will drive everyone to a polling place and/or stand right there to be sure they call for absentee ballots. Doesn't BushCo know that addresses of Homeless Shelters count?

Jobless recovery, my arse!

We'll be Bushless soon, thank Goddess.

2. "Are there no prisons? Are there no poorhouses?"

Somebody should rewrite that old book to provide for the happy and jolly Amerikan Imperial Class and their devoted and joyous embrace of Scroogian "ethics".
