Women more likely to benefit from employee based healthcare

A new report from the Employee Benefits Research Institute finds that women are more likely to benefit from employee based healthcare plans. 41 percent of women say they will receive retiree health insurance while only 32 percent of men do. According to report author Craig Copeland that has nothing to do with women being savvier with retirement planning, it has to do with the types of jobs available to men and women.:

(Copeland): "Men are more likely to work in the private
sector, and working jobs such as construction that are less likely to offer a retirement plan."

All together only 37 percent of both men and women plan to receive retiree health insurance. Copeland also says that men in Northeastern states tend to do better than women when saving for retirement because in those states men often work for large companies.

(Copeland2): "The type of job that you have is going to be a
significant factor in whether you are actually able to use an employer-based plan. It has to be offered to you."

The study finds that men are much more confident than women that they will have enough money to be comfortable and are doing a good job preparing for retirement. Fifty-five percent of men are confident while only 41 percent of women are confident.
