Bless Senator Robert Byrd
I don't care if he was a KuKlux Klansman in his youth or whatever the knock on him is. Throughout this whole misbegotten war his has been a voice of passionate reason. His speeches will someday be in the Great American Speeches book. Here he goes again.

4. No insult intended. Sorry you took it that way. It's just
one of those things that gets mentioned when his name comes up.

7. No it isn't.

I think you are being coy....."Not".

I think you did that deliberately and with malice, inflammatory intent. I just like to put the facts out on the Board.

Nothing in the common dreams article mentions his past as you have done....That was your choice.

15. No, I've seen many on this board remind us all that some
of Senator Byrd's past isn't peachy.

I think the OP was honestly trying to fend off that attack.

2. The Pope was a Hitler Youth...I think Byrd deserves a pass on his past
He's redeemed himself many times over since then.

3. Its the wing-nuts that keep on bringing up his youth in the KKK.
The very same who would be in the KKK, if it was 50 years ago.

8. Where can one buy that
"Great Americans Speeches Book" you so passionately identify as "the text"? You obviously place it in very high regard.

10. I don't know if it exists in harcover book form. Here's a link
I was using it figuratively. I read about it here:

http://www.commondreams.org/views07/0109-31.htm

and read some of the speeches here:

12. Where is the book?
Edited on Thu Jan-11-07 08:06 PM by liberalnurse
You said in the thread post there was a book.....

If there is not a book, then why mention it?

Oh, I get it...if you didn't create a "book figuratively", then you might not get away with a lame attempt to trash the Great Senator Byrd....

I see now. :smoke:

13. Boy, you're feisty. All I know about the book is the
Common Dreams article I cited here:

http://www.commondreams.org/views07/0109-31.htm

It says it was a Library of America "package." Maybe it was a CD ROM. It says 1500 pages. Don't know.

14. Actually, here it is and priced quite reasonably.
It's a real book and I just ordered it. Whatever you wish to think about my motives for my post, Senator Byrd's speeches against the Iraq war are as noble and well phrased as, probably, anything in the book and, if it is ever updated, I hope some or all of them would be included.

6. 400 billion dollars
that could have been used for education. It struck me that it was an education expenditure. A course which Bush/Cheney flunked- but they demand another extension, a make-up and no blemish on their student record. There ARE some children who should be left behind who are too much with us. Our whole income tax is a part of neocon education about reality and it isn't working.

Reality paints the wall large in blood. Why can't Georgie read?
