If Bush Had an Epiphany and Woke Up, He Could Be My Hero
by Rob Kall

This op-ed describes a fantasy-- one that would I think would be the BEST news the world could face in the next few years.

Just imagine if Bush and Cheney experienced epiphanies that turned them away from the dark side, and towards this idea of doing good. Imagine if Bush and Cheney, or even one of them, decided to do good, tell the truth, stand up to evil, in the forms of greed, hunger for power, corruption. I'm going to focus on Bush. He's more likely to change.

Bush could turn his legacy around. He could go down in history as a person who really did find God, not the despicable territory he attributed to his connection with God. Could it happen? The odds are very long, and just mentioning it will surely lead to some labeling me a hopeless optimist. Still, if you follow morphogenic field theory, "The Secret" etc., you have to put the idea out there for it to manifest itself. Not that I'm suggesting we take it as anything other than a thought field that could gain momentum. But what if a lot of people started talking about how good it would be if Bush dumped his current advisors and started listening to others in the center or the left? What if this became a conversation that made it on the mainstream media?

Why shouldn't Larry King and Tim Russert talk about the possibility that Bush would dump Karl Rove, Grover Norquist, and the other neocon advisors who have taken him to the low point that he is the most hated, despised human ever to live, that he is seen and will be seen by history as the worst president, one of the worst leaders the US and the world have ever seen.

It's funny, but I have had this same thought numerous times: What if Bush suddenly woke up and started doing the right thing? I truly have never experienced people being so consistently wrong, wrong, wrong, on every topic and in every area, as are Bush and Cheney. I mean, honestly, have either of these two ever said anything about Iraq that has turned out to be correct? I don't think so.

Imagine if we had a president and vice-president who were right about things as often as these two are wrong! My God, they'd be superheroes!

No, George will never wake up. Sadly, he's bad to the bone. But wouldn't it be great if he did? He is in a position to do so much good for the world, but instead he gives us screwup after screwup after screwup, and the end is still not in sight. What a tragedy for America he has been.

By the way, I totally agree with the author that Bush is "the most hated, despised human ever to live". I honestly don't think any other individual human in the long history of our species has ever been hated, or at least disliked, by more of his fellow humans. Hitler? I doubt it. For one thing, there were fewer people then. And Bush's terrible judgment threatens the well-being of every single person on the planet. No, Bush actually is the "worst person in the world" - ever.

1. Huh?
Who gives a damn about this kind of fantasy? Maybe I woke up on the wrong side of the bed, but indulging in this kind of "what if-ness" is fruitless and counter productive. It's too late for Bush to "turn his legacy around" -- 3000 soldiers would still be dead, the lies would still be there, the wrecked economy, the destroyed faith and trust in America around the world.

2. That could be why it was in Editorials
Every now and then indulging in a fantasy may be helpful psychologically when we are being barraged daily by pathetic and moronic shit from the right. Such as Herr Gruppenfuhrur Alberto Gonzo telling judges they should just STFU and back the chimp.

I have no problem at all every now and then doing the old "wouldn't it be nice if..." thing myself.

4. me either
but my "what if" fantasies consist of "what if Al Gore had been running the country..." rather than any kind of exoneration of the chimp.

3. Bush does claim that God has spoken to him, but these sudden
...ideas or thoughts which Bush seems to get every now and then I believe come from beings much closer to earth, maybe even from center earth!

Definition of epiphany (noun)
appearance of a supernatural being; sudden idea or thought

5. Your fantasy doesn't go far enough...
Bush would need to be able to turn back time by 5-1/2 years, announce that he had had a vision from God that we are vulnerable and increase aerial defense.

THEN! On 9/11/2001, shoot down the planes and claim victory over terrorism, renounce all ties to the bin Laden family in the name of National Security, and make an agreement with Israel to orchestrate a manhunt for Osama bin Laden.

Last, in a gesture of conciliation to Muslims around the world, recognize Mecca and Madina as Holy Lands, pull all troops out of Saudi Arabia and urge recognition of Palestine as a sovereign nation within the UN and help them establish a constitutional democracy.

See, now THAT is a fantasy! :-)

And, if that wasn't enough... sign an executive order requiring Senate pensions and health benefits to be tied in with Medicare and Social Security, force Cheney and Rice to eliminate all financial associations with oil companies and businesses in the Middle East, negotiate with Congress for a nationalized health plan... and make civil unions equivalent to marriage in terms of federal tax benefits, immigration laws and next-of-kin rights.

I could keep going, but that's enough for now.
