Bush's Woes Will Trail Him to S. America

WASHINGTON (AP) - Second-term presidents often find comfort in foreign policy and overseas travel as they lose clout at home. A statesman-abroad strategy, however, will not work particularly well for President Bush on a six-day Latin American trip designed to signal a revitalized U.S. commitment to the region.

Bush is unpopular throughout the globe, even in this country's backyard, and will find it hard to escape the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan no matter where he goes.

Bush's trip - to generally friendly nations - is intended to show renewed interest in a part of the world that has felt neglected since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

He will promote closer trade ties, more anti-drug trafficking cooperation and an increased emphasis on biofuels and other alternate energy sources.

2. "A statesman-abroad strategy".

First one must BE a statesman to be a statesman abroad. Bush certainly does NOT fit the definition of a statesman, even in the loosest sense of the word. He's hated wherever he goes. Even leaders of "friendly" countries find him boorish and ego-maniacal. He's a disgrace to our country and I wish he'd just go cut brush on his pig farm instead of embarrassing us abroad.

3. If he freezes, can't think of anything brilliant to say (which seems so impossible, doesn't it?)

he can surely win over the hearts of Latin American audiences by showing them a little of that old _Bush magic, some really fancy buttwork, as he did with Ricky Martin:

4. Going Overseas Is Insane

Unless he's moving to the Paraguayan hacienda to take up residence...

The Bubble Boy will have a hard time maintaining that bubble in South America...his whole family for generations is hated there, especially after the twins did their good-will ambassador trip!

Still, it will be a relief to have Bush adn Cheney out of the country (will their trips overlap?)

Seems to me it would be a better world without neocons. or plain conservatives. There aren't any true conservatives left, anyhow. Are there?
