Lieberman charges that Dean is a divisive force among Democrats
The Democratic candidate and hobbit look-alike Joe Lieberman make the case for mediocrity as a virtue in a leader.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Presidential hopeful Joe Lieberman warned Friday against replacing "one divisive leader with another divisive leader," a swipe at both President Bush and the front-runner for the Democratic Party's nomination, Howard Dean.

Voters in 2000 were almost evenly divided between Bush and the Democratic ticket of former Vice President Al Gore and Lieberman. Bush eventually prevailed in one of the closest presidential elections in history.

Lieberman, a Connecticut senator struggling in the race to gain the 2004 nomination, on Friday added to his earlier criticism that Dean was taking Democrats backward by arguing that the former Vermont governor was a divisive force within the party.

"We're too divided," Lieberman said as he toured a technology plant in Delaware. "I don't want to replace one divisive leader with another divisive leader."

3. if lieberman gets the nomination
I'll vote for him...then I'll leave the democratic party. I hate (yes i use that word very freely with him) bush enough that i woudl vote for lieberman but i would then seriously look into 3rd party alternatives. Thank god that will never happen.

10. manby-pandy
I'm with you Caution.

If Joe gets the nod I will hold my nose and vote for him and then watch as the voters choose between conservative whacko or conservative manby-pandy.

I'm sure whacko will wn in a landslide. Poeple like convictions even if they are dangerous....

12. This is the guy
who was willing to badmouth his party's leader and a successful president over a personal moral issue.

He hasn't changed a bit. Lieberman would turn on his best friend to heighten his political advantage. I sincerely hope he loses his Senate Seat.

Lieberman be gone!!!!!

13. If He Is the Nominee, I will vote for him absentee
I wouldn't want to :puke: in the polling place.

I wouldn't want him to lose his seat though, We may be perilously close to a filibuster-proof Republican majority in the Senate after next years elections as it is.

19. And a few other things
1. He dissed Clinton on the Senate floor
2. He gave away all the absentee votes in Florida - gave the GOP the approval they needed to count ones from "their" counties and suppress ones from "our" counties.
3. He criticized Al Gore's campaign several times over the last couple of years - saying it was too "populist".

Three good reasons to know that Lieberman is the one who is "divisive".

16. Lieberman is probably right on this one.
I would never vote for Lieberman in the primary, but I believe he may be right about Dean being more divisive. And I think he is also right in suggesting that Dems will have a hard time replacing a divisive Republican with a divisive Democrat.

People want peace. They don't want to jump out of one frying pan into another. The divide and conquer "strategy" (incompetence really) of Bush has divided everyone at virtually all scopes: party, country, world, even your local office lunchroom probably.

I started a thread on comparing Clark/Dean DU polls over in GD Primaries. The results of the two DU polls seem show that Dean may well be more divisive among Dems than Clark.

20. Perhaps Joe L has been on DU
I'm new to this forum, but based on a lot of the "Dean can't win or Dean needs to get out of the race" or whatever threads, there clearly is some pretty strong division here among some of the more I would imagine dedictaed members of the party.
