Iraq Refugee Crisis Means More American Troops Staying and Dying because of Bush Stubbornness

A BUZZFLASH NEWS ANALYSIS

Iraq is spiraling towards violence in way most people do not realize. But it is not because of what is going on in Iraq; the problem is what is coming out of Iraq.

An estimated 2.3 million Iraqis have fled the country since the 2003 invasion, and 1.7 million are displaced within Iraq. These 4 million uplifted people make up about 16% of the 2003 population of roughly 25 million.

That means that a huge chunk of the most peaceful Iraqis who want nothing to do with sectarian violence, civil war, or attacks on our troops are no longer around to rebuild the shattered nation. Plenty more law-abiding folks are left, but the mass exodus necessarily means that insurgents and extremists now make up a higher percentage of those still in the most perilous areas.

The Iraq in which our troops are fighting becomes more deadly each time an Iraqi who is against the violence leaves. Every such departure means one less person to oppose terrorists, assist coalition and Iraqi forces, and help establish a unified, stable Iraq. And it's getting worse: 100,000 Iraqis are fleeing the country every month and the death toll of innocent people continues to climb.

Don't forget about the economy. Iraqis wealthy enough to flee the war-torn nation are bringing their money with them, reports Iraqi newspaper Azzaman. Entrepreneurs and investors are far keener to buy property and start businesses in other Arab nations, draining billions of dollars out of the Iraqi economy and forcing heavy subsidization by the Iraqi government (and thus America).
