Journalism and Democracy
Having just been arrested by Miami police officers after photographing them against their wishes, I was intrigued when I read the press release about a noted journalist who was coming to Miami to speak about “Journalism and Democracy.”

But when I walked into the auditorium at Florida International University’s Biscayne Bay campus Tuesday night and saw more than 300 journalism students – enough to fill an Anna Nicole Smith press conference – I was flabbergasted.

In these times of media conglomeration, newsroom layoffs, and lapdog reporters, you'd think journalism would be the last career choice for ambitious college students.

But perhaps that's just the jaded journalist in me.

1. Great work, RIM!
I think, the more time we spend on the internets, the more able we are to distinguish the wheat from the chaff. I've noticed that people are drawn to great writers and not so great writers who are great truthtellers. I often wondered where we'd be without the blogs?
Thanks!

3. Hey R.i.M., can you post the links to the threads on your arrest?
I saw them at the time, but I can't find them now.

Thanks. :hi:

4. Hey Mika, here are a few threads I listed in chronological order
These are from local news sites, including category305, the site I was on assignment for that night. Category305 was launched a few months ago by two former Miami New Times reporters.

If you go on google and type in "carlos miller" and "miami police" complete with quotation marks, then click on "blogs", which can be accessed by clicking "more" on top of the space bar, you will see I had my 15 minutes of fame on the Internets a couple of weeks ago.
