GLOBE EDITORIAL
An enlarging scandal at Justice

March 31, 2007

THE SUSPICION that partisan politics motivated at least some of the Bush
administration's firings of eight US attorneys sharpened this week. Former
Justice Department aide Kyle Sampson told the Senate Judiciary Committee
Thursday that "the distinction between political and performance-related
reasons for removing a US attorney is, in my view, largely artificial."
If senators accept this state of affairs, they should close down their
inquiry into the purge and accept a new reality: that US attorneys are not
objective enforcers of the laws but part of a president's political machine
-- 93 Karl Roves with prosecutorial powers.

But if the committee rejects that, it should explore further two major
disclosures by Sampson. One was that, contrary to Attorney General Alberto
Gonzales's past denial of involvement in the sackings, Gonzales conferred
with Sampson several times about them. Confirmation of his falsehood
strengthens the case for Gonzales's resignation.

The other revelation by Sampson was that Rove, President Bush's top political
adviser, approached Gonzales about three of the US attorneys who were
canned. One of them was ultimately replaced by an aide to Rove. The Senate
should move quickly to get Rove to testify before it -- under oath, with a
transcript -- even if this requires a subpoena.

5. It is a pleasure to read about people who can present an assessment
based on logic. It is exhausting to keep reading about the manipulations of juveniles and their versions of logic and how they spend their time on our dime.

For themselves and friends.

Exactly how are they improving the country? No one can name one issue. It is all for them. their power, their continuity, their friends. There is notihing for mere citizens.

Unless you count death, delusion, dismemberment, destruction, disease, deforestaton, debt.
Big debt.

For us.

7. "manipulations of juveniles"
Well said, I was watching the Bush visit to Walter Reed last night on PBS. There he was surrounded by amputees and he jumps up on the treadmill to perform. It reminds of a juvenile, hey, lookee, I am better than you. In case anyone missed the visit, Bush asked
the reporters to photograph the tattoo of a "naked lady" on one of the soldiers.

Ralston, Taylor, Sampson, Jackson, Goodling, etc, etc.

All well scrubbed and sqeaky kleen little automatons. Review the Milgram Experiment (google it up !).

Looks like the WH was violating child labor laws !

11. there is something very odd about this administration
listen to one of them speak, even those that have left and are now in private life and you
will hear a hymn of praise for Bush. I have never seen this before, I know of no cabinet
member who ever spoke of their boss like he was a minor deity before this. Then there
is their activities, they seem to have no concept of ethical behavior at all, no concept
of what their duties as public servants are.

Remember, about pre-9/11 plans to attack Iraq, and also the cost of this adventure ? Time to refresh sheeple's memories.

the gushing Harriet Miers and Andrew Card. They act more like cult followers than public
servants. Paul O'Neill was ousted becuz he pointed out that the crony tax cuts were hurting
America, once again we have politics triumphing over the common good.

17. Bush is a David Koresh. I see it also. It makes we want to study
cults - there may be some answers.

Consider this, also. The good friend of the Bushes is Rev Moon (seller of nuclear stuff to North Korea, self-proclaimed Christian leader of the world, owner of the Washington Times, and cult leader for just his introduction). His followers appear drugged by their belief in him. Once you get someone to give you all their money, then their souls - why not share the knowledge?

We're talking devotion and sacrifice. Blind devotion and sacrifice.

Then we have George saying that he listens to another father.

Then, consider Norquist. Reagan is his father-savior and Norquist is one tough nasty deal driven maniac - in the name of Reagan.

After the take-out of J. Kennedy, one of his friends cautioned people about placing all their devotion on a person, but rather on ideals. He was speaking in relation to the grief people were experiencing. I always thought he was on to something and I was young enough and old enough to remember it an apply it. I honor Kennedy for his idealism and abilities. I was never absorbed by his human defeciencies which has become something people cling to to express their hate. These are the same people who adore Reagan and/or Junior.

Well, we might investigate Moon for clues to the methods used to establish cult followings.

There is no secret about the Republican Foundations and Organizations paying to groom these people - every level of law, media, school boards, local civics. They had a plan and we are witnessing the manifestations of it.

We are victims of illness and disease in people rule.

19. Bush rules from his "gut"
he says God talks to him, he thinks he is president through a 'manifest destiny.' Yes,
this is similar to many cult leaders.

22. Have you read John Dean's latest book on Authoritarianism?
I haven't yet, but I have been fascinated by fear-based personalities for a long time. I have the new Chris Hedges book too which I am hoping to read when I travel next month.

Remember "Question Authority"? I guess only some of us took that to heart. I do admire and respect certain people but I agree, any cult of personality is ultimately boring. Perhaps that's why they result in a love/hate binary. Oh wait a minute, I do hate Bush/Cheney et al. Woops! But I am even getting bored with that, I just want them to go away. I am ready for our species to evolve beyond their kind of threat to our future security.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, too bad they don't.

The explanation about Social Dominators and Right Wing Authoritarians and how they link up together explains a lot about * and cults and all kinds of ugly things.

18. Chirstian University like Eric Prince/Blackwater came from
it's seems like many of these institutions do not teach critical thinking, morality is
fine but 90% of life is being about to make assessments. Plus there seems to be a hatred
of the middle east and followers of the Koran which is entwined with many of this moral
teaching.

20. The only morality they teach is that the ends justify the means.
That leaves everything wide open, as we have seen from their behavior.

Edited on Sat Mar-31-07 12:49 PM by MissWaverly
Cabinet Officials and DOJ employees say what is approximately the truth but
quite frankly their recollections are kind of hazy. While others like Sibel Edmonds
and David Hicks are under gag orders to say nothing.

and take note they pissed off the wrong broad. Her pointed questions to Sampson (see video on DU post below)

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=385x20967

shows that the WH AND CIA are in attack mode in order to preserve the CIA/GOP money pipeline is fulfilling NBC's Lisa Myers in this article:

"It's all part of a growing ongoing investigation into corruption in defense and intelligence contracts, which already has sent former Rep. Randy “Duke” Cunningham to prison and, legal sources say, may threaten others in Congress and the CIA. "

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12634250 /

"MAY" threaten ? may threaten others in Congress and the CIA ? Excuse me, but WILL threaten. The DU and non-M$M must get the word out, these guys in the WH and CIA are going to play dirty in order to keep the Octopus alive.

CIA/GOP false front companies that stash loot skimmed from drug money off the Afgan heroin trade and distributed around DC like chocolate mints on hotel room pillows is the real scandal that will hit the fan; The Octopus that Casolaro and Webb were investigating should get them nominated, at the very least, for posthumous Pulitzer Prizes. What say you, DUers ?

BTW, please read Alfred McCoy's classic (now updated)
The Politics of Heroin: CIA Complicity In The Global Drug Trade

DOD can't find a missing $2.3 TRILLION and now the GOP and CIA are after Sen Feinstein in order to twist her arm and not spill the beans, but apparently the broad knows that the stakes are high: whether Democracy (capital D) survives in the US. The GOP will now try to continue war funding by claiming poverty and forcing Dems to cut funding for domestic programs...lovely bunch, these 'compassionate conservatives'.
