William Safire creates stuff out of whole cloth.

The only William I'm willing to believe hasn't said a word yet, nor should he, I suppose. And that's William Jefferson Clinton.

Of course, if he did, then the party would have to follow his lead, right? Just like they did while Bill was President? I should live that long.

There are a lot of self-appointed prima donnas in the Democratic side of life, and they are just mirror images of Saletan and Safire.

Let a real leader lead. GO DEAN!

Either all this stuff from the Dean campaign about the establishment is an attack on the Clintonian center, or it's the usual meaningless blather that politicians toss to crowds to make themselves look nonpolitical. Just the fact that Repugs are already attacking him w/ their ads tells you something. Hello? Dean has the big "MO" and is bringing more people (esp. young people) into the party.

6. The sirtuation needs Dean

Someone credible has to confront the insanity directly. Sidestepping, not stepping on toes, walking on water to avoid getting wet- none of that is working in a crisis of lies. Whatever the fate of his candidacy, his invaluable service is to keep hammering away until the dam breaks, is blasted away, until the floods evaporate in steams of aroused elctoral wrath.

What myth or institution is worth the slaughter of innocents? Are all politicans vying for the position of Herod, with meek and slick PR? Where does compromise help in a time of decision? Muddle through in puddles of innocent blood? The times will not permit the past anymore. Not without a savage price looming. Gore should have been more like dean when it counted. It would have made the difference.

In 30's Germany they had a wasted, war racked, Depression ravaged and humiliated nation uneducated to healing and peace, alternatives sabotaged by renascent oligarch monsters. What is our excuse? Fatness? Better manners?
