Georgia's senators aren't voting to protect citizens
LETTERS
I enjoy reading your paper when visiting in your nice, friendly town. I don't know if you publish the weekly voting record of our members of Congress, but I have been keeping track of our members of Congress to see who is voting for the average American citizen. Here are my findings:
Sens. Chambliss and Miller:
Voted for a bill providing tax breaks for oil and gas drilling, coal extraction and nuclear energy.
Defeated an amendment authorizing the Commodity Futures Trading Commission to regulate and make transparent over-the-counter trading in energy derivative and commodities.
Voted no on giving Federal Energy Regulatory Corp the power to outlaw manipulative practices for which some Enron officials have been indicted.
Voted to ease environmental rules so that commercial logging in pristine national forests can be increased. They also voted to limit judicial authority to impede logging requests. Logging companies will have more power.
