AFLCIO on 8M people losing overtime
Edited on Sun Jan-25-04 03:50 PM by Virgil
http://www.aflcio.org/yourjobeconomy/overtimepay/ns01222004.cfm This is a good source for understanding the labor position on the overtime laws that were changed. It says Bush not only led the charge to remove overtime pay from workers paychecks, but he also threatened to veto the whole bill over this issue if it were removed. Bush claimed it would affect 644,000 workers and anyone with any sense should take this as a flat out lie.

Here is a Mark Fiore flash animation on the subject- http://www.aflcio.org/yourjobeconomy/overtimepay/otbgone.cfm

At CannabisNews.com I often put up a signature line that says "We are ruled by treason." The government of-for-by the people is gone. We are under plutocratic rule. The dickhead now in residence does not come close to defending the Constitution and serves the wealthy that pulls his strings.

We all know the complicity of the media in all of this. The same bill that took away OT pay for 8 million people also granted the media larger market share. They had stepped over the legal boundary and nobody did anything. How were they allowed to grow beyond their limit in the first place? Well, the FCC and the USG need them and they can do what they want as they can have the laws changed anyway now that we have plutocratic rule. What do you call permafrost once it melts? What do you call the public airwaves now? What do you call American democracy when we are ruled by treason?

There was a good article up earlier on the thought herding ways of the USG. It concerned a CIA agent that worked on the Internet in a disinformation campaign to gather in the strays- http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=125&topic_id=6852

1. Let's not forget about the Democrats who sided with the
Republicans (there were 16 including Zell Miller,Mary Breaux, and Dianne Feinstein. Also neither Kerry, Lieberman nor Edwards could squeeze time into their schedule to be present to vote on the budget this past week) and voted to support Busn's budget bill that included the changes in overtime rules.

Let us also not forget that Gephardt along with six other DEMOCRATS was not even present to vote on July 10 when the overtime issue was voted on in the House of "Representatives."

Oh no, the pugs don't do this stuff alone. They, unlike the Democrats, don't back down as readily or at the drop of a hat.

Once your overtime is gone it will be difficult to get it back, given today's climate and the willingness of Americans to accept anything done to them at work because they are "thankful just to have a job."

2. That has been my biggest issue.
Gephardt was not in th House either when the day came to vote this last summer.....It is so felonious to claim they are for the people and then, don't even vote or defend us when it means our livelihood.

People can't send their kids to college, pay the mortgage, go on vacation......Remember, those most affected are firefighters, police and nurses. We are the first in line for Homeland Security if things happen......

They are false leaders......

3. What is Rove/Bush thinking????
I don't understand this, taking overtime away from 8 million people in an election year is STUPID. This makes no sense. There are going to be a lot of pissed off voters come November...

4. dems
When we have dems that vote in favor of this type of Bill and others that don't even vote can we say that those reps are working for the American Worker?

I have been convinced for about 10 years now that the USA is no longer a Democracy. It is a Plutocracy. Campaign Reform has not worked. The system is corupt. Corporations now rule America via our so-called reps who are suppossed to fight for the American people, yet it is obvious who these people are really working for; the Corporations that line their pockets.
