Schwarzenegger, alas, puts Davis to shame
Sacramento Bee Editorial:

Truly unmitigated
Schwarzenegger, alas, puts Davis to shame

There is something truly majestic about Arnold Schwarzenegger's gall.

This is the guy who ran for governor saying that he was not like Gov. Gray Davis and promising that he was beyond the reach of special interests.

Now, less than three months into his first term as governor, he has come up with a campaign fund-raising scheme that is so slimy it makes Davis' efforts seem downright wholesome.

Schwarzenegger plans to hold a dinner in New York later this month. The guests will be leaders of the nation's biggest financial institutions. For $50,000 each, they will get to chow down with the governor. (Real players are being encouraged to buy a table for 10, which works out to $500,000. Apparently, volume discounts do not apply.)

Schwarzenegger will use that money to bankroll his campaign to pass a $15 billion bond issue. If voters approve the bonds, the same financial moguls who put up the money will stand to profit handsomely from the bond sales.

4. The man has had to make some tough decisions
such as cutting services. Nobody wants to have to do that. But Arnold did what he said he was going to do and had a mandate to do. Whatever his politics, you can't fault him for that.

7. Yeah, he could have skipped the whole recall thing if he were truly
honorable. That was an out and out crime against democracy, manipulated in the most cynical way, and Arnie went right along with it, and damn Cauli-for-nia.

Now his claim to be able to do better than Davis is shown to be another craven lie. And I should give this guy a little credit...why? His more or less amiable performance in "Twins" just doesn't cut it for me anymore. He ought to be locked up with the rest of the democracy thieves.

11. Did what he said he would?
He SAID he would just have his "experts" go over the budget and find out where that silly Davis was wasting money.

What he DID was repeal the license fee that his Republican predecessor had built into the budget process as an emergency measure, then declared he could make up the difference by borrowing boatloads more money.

12. He didn't have to cut services
ESPECIALLY chemotherapy for poor cancer patients. My God, that is one of the cruelest acts I have EVER seen. He could easily have raised taxes. I can fault him for everything, particularly being an asshole.

5. It's not a sin if the godly do it.
You know what happens when you have this much hybris?

You have to wear a rubber suit to go outside, even on sunny days.

6. Here is how Republicans number game works
There is three things controlling society

1) Money

2) Media

3) Power

The number that they do not have is people. People here in the U.S. tend to be progressive, and want to do correct for the continuation of society. The Republicans want to do what is right for individual. This is not being team player for the progression of the human race but a progression of a elitist few. This is coming to light very quickly and will be dealt with in 2006, the next election for the Governor of California.

13. I'm trying to keep an open mind on Arnie's bond
I'm inclined to vote against it. I am willing to listen to what he has to say for it.

This doesn't help his cause.
