O. Ricardo Pimentel (AZ Rep.):Let's not split hairs - Bush lied about WMDs
Here's something to consider in this crucially important issue of whether President Bush was victim or victimizer, fooled or fooler, in the matter of Iraqi weapons of mass destruction.

<snip>

And, with Bush's cover finally blown, folks now note that he acted on the same intelligence that our previous president, Bill Clinton, and, even the French and Germans, also believed in. I must have missed it. Did Clinton invade Iraq because of WMDs? At some point, Republicans will have to grasp the notion that Clinton isn't president anymore and isn't responsible for Bush's actions.

David Kay, the departing U.S. weapons inspector in Iraq, told a Senate committee last week that the WMDs haven't been found and won't be found because they probably haven't existed for a while. He blamed a massive failure of intelligence.

He likened Bush to a regular Joe who gets bamboozled by his stockbroker into buying bad stock. OK, so is Bush easily bamboozled? Or is he venal? Both make Howard Dean's Iowa concession yell seem positively presidential.

"Both make Howard Dean's Iowa concession yell seem positively presidential."

Why, oh why did some people get how bad bu$h was BEFORE the 2000 election and others still are clueless?

shrub's decision to go to war with iraq had NOTHING to do with wmd.

"finishing" gulf war i, and seizing oil, sure; but wmd, no.

wmd was never more than (one of) the public pretense for invasion.

the lie was not the he didn't have wmd. the lie was that wmd was the reason in the first place.

so, is bush easily bamboozled or venal? neither. (well, yes to both, actually, but that wasn't what was on display in this case....)

try arrogant, dictatorial, and cynical. he wanted war for his own reasons and decided to come up with an entirely different rationale for the public.

3. Bush lied and 1000's died....both American and innocent Iraqis!
This is what should be emphasized over and over, IMO.....Not just the fact that he lied, but the horror that ensued because of his lies...

7. Bush Lied! Thousands Died!
I agree with you totally. That was on my protest sign today as we continue to rally for peace here in Alamogordo, NM.
We are getting far fewer negative responses (like the one-finger peace sign and the "If you don't like it, go home"...
But for every negative, there are 10 or 15 positive ones.

4. Logic dictates that
if the Repubs think Clinton was such a bad president, using his actions as justification for what they do is, well, idiotic.

5. GOPers: Read, Mark, and Inwardly Digest
There is nothing contradictory in being thankful for Saddam's ouster and upset about how we got there.

That's because the evidence is compelling that we were led down a path strewn with dishonesty, evasion, reckless disregard for truth and a cynical view of us as simpletons to be duped.

Bad enough to get taken, to be a patsy. Bad enough. Worse to be a willing patsy, but we've passed that point, too. The only question now is, how hard are you willing to work at it, guys, hm? I mean, we're long past the point where mere intellectual laziness is enough to stay in the game. You've got to labor at it, now. You've got to put in your six to eight hours a day just forcing yourself to believe what these grinning gladhanders are telling you. Not enough just to accept it, you've got to want to be conned so bad that you're straining at it, asking for 'em to lobotomize you so you won't have to listen to those parts of your brain that know what an utter crock of shit you've been sold and are hoping so bad they'll sell you more of. Hoping that if you're really good and you save them the expense and trouble by doing the lobotomy yourself--It's fun, and easy, using tools found in any household utility drawer, try it today and see!--and you're really really really good they'll let you hock your family's nest egg and the future of your kids and grandkids just for the privilege of eating more of their shit and promising, oh god swearing on Jeebus and your eternal soul that it tastes like candy, like chocolate candy bon bons nicer than they make in France, oh a million times nicer.
