Does no one realize that the White House is under criminal investigation?!

The story we all talked about a few days ago (the FBI investigation of the Plame leak) is finally heating up.

There are stories in the NYTImes (http://www.nytimes.com/2004/02/10/politics/10LEAK.html) and Washington Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A26979-2004Feb9?language=printer) today.

Joshua Micah Marshall (http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com), who was one of the few to notice the UPI story by Richard Sale last week, also discusses these two stories, and feels it will likely be very soon when the actual targets of the probe are published.

A very interesting sidebar in the Post story, I thought, was the mention that "A parallel FBI investigation into the apparent forgery of documents suggesting that Iraq attempted to buy yellowcake uranium from Niger is 'at a critical stage'."

While the media seems to be ignoring this so far, I also feel it's only a matter of time before it explodes.

Dare we dream? On the heels of David Kay, Paul O'Niell, horrible showings in the SOTU and on MTP... indictments for White House personnel? Even Cheney? Information that the OSP was in on the forgery? Perhaps the intelligence community ISN'T going down without a fight.

been talking about for months, if not years, are finally starting to get some mainstream press attention. I detect cracks in the facade; dare we hope that it will crumble altogether??

The deficits, the investigation, the spend and borrow mentality don't mean a thing! Our safety is at risk! Ha! When all else fails, let's just scare the shit out of the people.

4. Did you notice he was smiling (& smirking) when he said "I'm a war...

... president."?

I read the text of that first, and was astounded that he was being so up front about scaring us. But I never imagined he'd be anything but somber and serious when he said it. Then when I saw it, I was reminded that this was the guy who jokingly mocked someone he was having put to death.

I can't for the life of me understand how ANYONE sees this guy as a "likeable" regular guy!

who gets a bigger boner...The chimp for being a war pResident or Rummy who obviously gets his rocks off leading thousands of people to their death.

Either way, this whole "war time" scenario seems excite them in disgusting ways. It is like they get to play macho for the first time in their sick and twisted lives.

7. This is why the AWOL issue is registering.

It's like the NYTimes said yesterday:
The nation "cannot afford to have one who responds to the trauma of 9/11 by overreacting to the possibility of danger."

Bush's total defense for the war now seems to be "well, we couldn't afford to wait. I'd rather jump the gun and make sure the worst doesn't happen than not act." He's basically admitting he shot first and asked questions later. He's basically admitting he's paranoid, and acted rashly. "Lens of 9-11" and all, I guess.

But a president, and a staff, who's BEEN to war, who's seen it first-hand (not just in old movies), will be much less likely to "jump the gun". That president would weigh things more carefully, knowing full well the consequences of war, and decide if we could perhaps wait a little longer (like, I don't know, for U.N. weapons inspectors to finish their job at least). It's no coincidence that Colin Powell was the most cautious voice in the administration re Iraq.

I also think the AWOL issue is registering b/c this is different from merely avoiding the Viet Nam war. Clinton did that, Quayle did that, half the fighting age men of the time did that in one way or another. Everyone knows it, and accepts it. These were scared 18-year-olds.

But to not even live up to your cushy commitment that your connections got you... and THEN to be so gung-ho in sending other young men and women off to die for a war of choice?!

THAT is what's getting under people's skin.

6. Have any of us DUers even bothered to contact the news media

about their lack of coverage?

I have sent e-mails to CNN, MSNBC and the Big 3, let's see if we can walk the walk, and not just talk the talk about this GIANT story.

Everyone get on the websites of these media networks and demand they start covering this, NOW!!

I have CNN on and they just rehashed both in the past 30 minutes. Like either of these matter.
