Running Out the Clock on Plame Documents
Running Out the Clock on Plame Documents
By Matthew Blake 06/30/2008 01:13PM
Friday, the House Judiciary Committee subpoenaed Attorney General Michael Mukasey to provide interviews special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald had with George Bush W. Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney about Valerie Plame. That effort would appear to be in vain: Mukasey has told the Housse oversight committee, which two weeks ago requested via subpoena the exact same documents, that he won't cooperate.

In the 2003-2005 investigation to determine whether there was White House involvement in the leaking of Valerie Plame's identity as a covert CIA agent, Fitzgerald conducted transcribed interviews with Bush and Cheney. The case is officially closed and Fitzgerald has said that there is nothing legally protecting those interviews from being released to the public. Henry A. Waxman, chairman of the oversight committee, is now trying to get Fitzgerald re-involved, writing a letter to him asking what, if any, agreements he reached in letting the White House review documents before they were released to the public.
