1. I'm not upset about it because I'M irony challenged.

It's the millions of morans who actually vote that I worry about.

I get it. I get it.

Irony, however, does not work on fools, like rethuglicans and stupid "independents".

The main problem that strikes me here is that McNutso actually IS a decrepit Constitution-burning Cheney-worshipper with a druggie wife, and he DID sing "Bomb, bomb...."

So the difference between the Obama and McNutso covers is that the Obama cover reifies untrue stereotypes and false, malicious rumors, while the McNutso cover simply portrays reality.

4. Actually, I found this cartoon to be pretty offensive and quite untrue

It shows McCain as having won the election.

Also IMHO: The Obama cover has become ironic only because the outcome of the cover is the opposite of what was expected, and yet ends up succeeding in a different way than intended. They expected it to be seen as a critical take on the false rumors being spread about Obama, instead it has been seen by many as insulting and as enforcing those rumors. Because of the outcry about the racial content of the cartoon and its possible enforcing of the false rumors, air time/press coverage has been given not only to the cover but also to the falseness of rumors being spread. Thus the cover may have achieved its purpose, but not because it was done in the right way and the magazine lost its around-the-bend attempt at satire. (and yes I got their attempt at humor, just didn't think it was appropriately done.)

3. Now, if that National Review cover was real, we'd be even.

As it is, though, every right wing gasbag and news outlet will be showing the cover of the New Yorker Magazine just long enough to convince some people that Obama is a Muslim. I have a pretty good sense of humor, but that just wasn't funny.

6. It's a funny cartonist versus a "satirist."

The McCain cartoon IS based on truth, according to one post I read over at Salon.com. The poster said that it was the first time anyone was honest about McCain's trophy wife's own drug abuse.

And the guy draws caricatures that are amusing and joyous. The New Yawker cartoonist drew in the same damn flat style that every New Yorker cartoon has been drawn in since the 1930's.
