Christianity's Silent Majority must be heard in the political arena
--snip--

Liberal, free-thinking Christians must now follow in the footsteps of their gay brothers and sisters. Just as gay men once fought stereotypes of limp-wristed effeminacy by revealing themselves as athletes, lawyers, construction workers and teachers, citizens who embrace the teachings of Jesus must fight equally debilitating stereotypes constructed on the activities of hard-line fundamentalists and religious conservatives.

1. I just came across this article
Edited on Sun Feb-29-04 07:59 PM by pacifictiger
rather interesting. It alludes to former cia types on a mission to expand the fundamentalist opinion and political viewpoint - maybe there is more to this surging wave of rampant fundamentalism than appears on the surface. Stealth takeover. Think about it.
---------
The Institute on Religion and Democracy was co-founded 23 years ago by a group of neoconservatives led by Penn Kemble, who served as a matchmaker between Oliver North and U.S.-based financial backers of the Nicaraguan Contra rebels. Kemble went on to lead the U.S. Information Agency, the foreign propaganda arm of the federal government.

During the Iran-Contra years, Kemble was quoted in newspapers saying liberal leaders of America's mainline Protestant churches had frustrated the CIA's efforts to overthrow Nicaragua's Sandinista government.

4. Kemble is a big cog in Social Democrats, USA
Social Democrats, USA was the spawning ground for neoconservatives. They were big supporters of Scoop Jackson in the 70s. I just look at all the wreckage these followers of Max Shactman have left behind...

6. Here is their web page
http://www.socialdemocrats.org/

You can read all the pro-war shit Kemble and his fellow 5th columnist Likudites serve up.

These are the same gang of Idiots that had Jeanne Kirkpatrick as their Chairwoman while their idol Reagan was in the White House.

They are neither Social nor Democratic. They showed their tolerance for free thinkers when they threw Michael Harrington (the Other America) out

9. This makes sense...

Come to think of it, this would be perfectly consistent with the m.o. of the CIA. After all, these are the same geniuses who installed the Shah of Iran because they thought a theocratic dicatatorship would be easier to manipulate than a secular government.

8. Check this link out.
This guy is trying to get his message out to

Right wingers. (And the Dem candidates and representatives for their consideration) Hopefully some will link to his site.

He is a minister of the United Methodist persuasion. He has lots of info on why mainline or conservative xtians SHOULD be democrats.

There are archived blogs there and current articles. He has a sister site also:

http://www.liberalslikechrist.org
http://www.jesusnorepublican.com

His stuff flies in the face of fundies and this "religious" neocon government. So, yes, there are some of us Liberal Christian types trying to get a point across to the facist right using their own "text" to make the case.

There's just a plethora of history on the net about the fundamentalist movement and how they are tied in with these neocons in power today. It is worth the time to read the many sites. These are just two of my favs. (for starters)
