Bush sets himself up for a fall

March 2, 2004 http://www.newsday.com/news/local/longisland/columnists/ny-livit023692689mar02,0,4188739.column?coll=ny-li-columnists

It didn't seem possible to say six months ago. But today's primary election may be about more than who gets to be the presidential nominee of the Democratic Party.

Polls say it. Professional politicians say it. The brittle hesitancy in President George W. Bush's voice, when he was interviewed recently by Tim Russert on "Meet the Press," said it most clearly of all.

A Democrat could win.

Presidents go up and down in polls all the time, of course. But Bush has suffered hard blows this year, and deserved every one of them.

His war in Iraq has turned sour. While it has rid the world of zero caches of weapons of mass destruction, more than 500 Americans and an estimated 10,000 Iraqis have been killed. For what?

The economic recovery has left millions of workers unrecovered. Bush's tax cuts have not only set up the budget for the largest deficits in 50 years, but threatened to break the covenant of Social Security.

In times like these, a Democrat could win, and I hope he does.

Others go so far as to say Rove is setting W up for a fall.

It doesn't seem likly but I did a cartoon anyway.

Bush needs a new name or slogan or perhaps a speaking voice transplant.

We all knew that Bush wasn't elected
but adjudicated by the Supreme Court.
Of course Gen. Boykin says W was not elected
but appointed by God. The common man says "selected".

As the war president and the master of morality who will defend,
preserve
and protect
the inequality
of selected impure Americans,
we really need a better name for this president.

His holiness the president needs a catchy new name.

Inquisitor?

God Czar,

why not Bishop and chief or
Ayatolla US.

A privitized incorporated faith based universal multinational president
- PIFBUMP as a title,
needs to be shortened to something easier on the tongue.
The World Oil Minister Bush And Theologian
WOMBAT is no better.

I'm open to suggestions...

like maybe

American Society Secretary & Holy Ordained Legislative Executive.

yep Chavez had it right.
