Frustrated by the tens of thousands of voters across the country who have had their names purged from the voter registration rolls , the MICAH Project and Amercia in Solidarity is issuing a call to action to declare October 1, 2008 as NATION GUARANTEE YOUR VOTE DAY. This call to action hopes to prevent voters from learning on Election Day that their names have been purged from the rolls when it will be too late to re-register.
The MICAH Project and America in Solidarity is coordinating with blogs, organizations, churches, unions, groups and individuals across the country to have their members/readers/supporters to check with their state or local elections officials to make sure that they are STILL registered to vote, and to prompt others to do so also.
Just recently:
---In Virginia, the AFL-CIO reported that students were being misled by Republican County Auditors as to where they could register or vote.
---In Michigan, Republican County Auditors have stated that those whose homes have entered foreclosure will be stripped from the voter rolls.
---In Jersey, 300,000 folks who thought they were registered to vote, actually either have been purged or never entered onto the voting rolls in the first palce.
---In Wisconsin, the Republican Attorney General has sued the state's election board to remove 20% of the voters from the rolls.
---In Ohio in 2006, 303,000 voters were purged in three major urban counties and this years another 600,000 have been threatened.
Let this election be decided by the people and not machines, dirty tricks or voter witch hunts! This is a matter of justice pure and simple,. If we can't have integrity in our electoral process then we risk sinking into anarchy and becoming a third world nation.
What can you do? Endorse the project as an individual, blog or group. Spread the word before October 1st to others and on October 1st send out an email, text or phone call to your members asking them to check their voter registration status and then asking them to notify their contacts also. Endorsed by; Washington State Central Labor Council, 27th District Democrats, the Velvet Revolution, Tacoma Dominican Sisters, Center for Creative Journalism among others.
