Mr. Bush, you and your gang have been supporting coup-plotters and political destabilisation here," said the outspoken Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez recently, adding, "Let's see who lasts longer - you in the White House or me in Miraflores."
Chavez has vowed not to emulate his Haitian counterpart by allowing himself to be forced out of office and threatened to close the taps on America's oil supply saying, "sadly not a drop will come to them
from Venezuela."
Chavez, fighting for his political future against a rowdy opposition, which he has long accused the US of backing, isn't pulling any punches. He considers himself the democratically elected leader of Venezuela and believes the Bush administration should butt out of his country's affairs.
It's already too late for the democratically elected Haitian leader President Jean-Bertrand Aristide, who was reportedly given a Hobson's choice by US representatives: stay and be torn apart by the baying wolves or resign and go into exile.
