AP Enterprise: Rumsfeld Kept 9-11 Souvenir

By JOHN SOLOMON, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - The Justice Department (news - web sites) investigation that criticized FBI (news - web sites) agents for taking souvenirs from the World Trade Center site also found that Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld and a high-ranking FBI official kept items from the Sept. 11 attack scenes.

The final investigatory report said the Justice Department inspector general confirmed Rumsfeld "has a piece of the airplane that flew into the Pentagon (news - web sites)." The Associated Press obtained a copy of the report Friday.

2. Further on down into the article...

Surviving family members were surprised by the news.

"Unbelievable," said William Doyle, whose son died in the World Trade Center.

A New York woman suing local authorities for alleged negligence in the Sept. 11 attacks said any souvenir-taking by officials was part of a larger failure to keep enough items, like steel beams, as evidence.

"Everybody has things that they probably should not have from the World Trade Center site," said Sally Regenhard, whose firefighter son died in the towers. "I'm sure there's probably all kinds of people that have all kinds of artifacts."

I hope Kerry jumps on this like flies on shit!

4. Would he forget about the attacks if he didn't have a reminder?
Investigators learned Rumsfeld had the airplane part after an FBI agent saw a television interview in which the defense secretary was "holding up pieces of building from the WTC and the Pentagon, saying he kept those items on his desk to remember the terrorist attacks."

This is just weird.

It reminds me of serial killers keeping "trophies" of their victims. I'm not suggesting that it is the same thing, but it reminds me of it.

I can't imagine why an official would want pieces of a tragedy on their desk, or why anyone would think it was a good idea to hand them out to visiting dignitaries.

6. wouldn't that make him a criminal? Wouldn't this behavior be punishable
as "interfering with an investigation" or "evidence tampering"?

7. In this bizzarro world...
...no. Remember, everything he does is O.K. since he has a big R next to his name. If it was a D he'd be the worst person in the world according to the "liberal" media.

8. It was criminal for one guy in Texas to not turn in a piece of the
shuttle wreckage early enough. Earned him a place in jail.

Even though they knew what caused the breakup.

9. How could it be proven?
I haven't seen any forensic evidence positively identifying the airframe alleged to have hit the Pentagon.
