The Cancer of Conservatism

The Cancer of Conservatism

When the Republican Party handed itself heart and soul to Big Business in the 1890s, it was the start of an epic battle to defend power and privilege in the United States at all costs. Briefly, under Theodore Roosevelt, the Republican Party was captured by the progressive wing, and TR had little sympathy for the "malefactors of great wealth" as he called them. But by the 1920s the fanatically pro-business, anti-worker orientation of the Republican Party was set. I have wracked my brain and I cannot think of ANY time the Republicans EVER acted in the interests of ordinary working men and women. They and their allies fought savagely against unions, never hesitating to use violence and state power to destroy them. (There is a myth that violence in labor disputes is only union-generated; check out Henry Ford's war against the unions to see a powerful refutation of this, or the war of the coal mine owners against the unions in West Virginia and Kentucky.)

This pro-business, anti-worker faction of the Republican Party hated FDR as if he were Satan incarnate. It is this faction of the Republican Party that fought against child labor laws, the right of workers to organize, minimum wage laws, worker safety protections, and every other proposal that was designed to grant working men and women the rights and dignity they deserved. The modern descendants of these violently anti-worker conservatives control part of the Republican Party today. They are the ones who voted against financial aid to the Big Three automakers so they could kill off the United Auto Workers, their sworn enemies since the 1930s. We should not be surprised.

...snip..
In short, the modern conservative movement's leaders consist of those who despise working people, those who proudly defend America's horrible racist legacy, the worst of the religious fanatics, and all those who wish to preserve America as an all-white, fundamentalist Christian patriarchy. On top of that is a group I can only call the New Imperialists, (the Neo-Conservatives) dedicated to imposing our "will" on every other nation on earth. And their methods of acquiring and keeping power have been so vicious and ugly as to shame any decent person.

...snip...

Today, look what the Republican Party stands for: opposition to American working men and women, the channeling of trillions of dollars to the richest Americans, hatred of gays, hatred of immigrants, continued smoldering racism, opposition to desperately needed health care reforms, opposition to all environmental protections, spitting hatred for science, hatred for public schools, hatred of all those who are not fundamentalist Christians, support for torture, support for rendition, and support for the fantastically corrupt Bush-Cheney regime. The conservative cancer is the perpetuation of all the worst features of American life--intolerance, fear, prejudice, and tribalism. It is this cancer that screams out that Barack Obama is "the AntiChrist", a "Muslim radical", "corrupt", "ally of Satan", and all the other filth we have seen hurled at our next president. The Radical Right is now going to try to destroy Obama and block every reform he tries to institute. We, the Progressive Netroots, must and will fight these dangerous radicals every step of the way.

It is time for the conservative cancer to be cut out of our body politic. All of our nation's most shameful acts and policies have their roots in it. The humane, progressive, and sensible American majority must, once and for all, put the right-wing minority in its place--and save our country from the death toward which the conservatives have so blindly pushed it.

1. Agree almost totally
only one objection--the selling out to Big Business by the GOP started after the Civil War with the sweetheart deals for the railroads.

2. Right on the money
but unfortunately, I fear that the people that need the to understand this the most, never will. And I certainly put much of the blame for not stopping this, in its increasingly malignant years since Reagan, , on the spineless Democrats who continue to this day to think you can "play nice" with these bastards.

4. Its more than just spinelessness.
There is a Conservative faction inside the Democratic Party (DLC) that agrees wholeheartedly with the worst economic abuses of the Republican Party. They led the pack for deregulation, outsourcing, dismantling of the Safety Net, and consolidation of Power & Money into fewer hands.

Before Democrats can condemn the Republican Party, they need to agree upon where they stand.

Now we got Your Children's Money too !!!
And there is not a fucking thing you can do about it!
Now THAT is "Bi-Partisanship"!
Get Used To It!!!
Hahahahahaha......SUCKERS !

"There are forces within the Democratic Party who want us to sound like kinder, gentler Republicans. I want us to compete for that great mass of voters that want a party that will stand up for working Americans, family farmers, and people who haven't felt the benefits of the economic upturn."---Paul Wellstone

. . . as long as "they" have the means to get their fear-mongering propaganda heard by the masses, there are those who will fall for it.

However, if Obama and his team can produce real, tangible, positive results (and I believe they can), we might have a chance. :patriot:

7. What I have always said: We've got to ATTACK the MEDIA.
Occupy and SHUT DOWN the radio and TV stations - before ANY of this will even begin to work...

6. If they were "conservative" in the least
one could excuse the use of the word. In bald point of fact, they conserve nothing. The entire sorry lot of them consume; consume, despoil, ruin everything they touch, leaving nothing of use behind. They are like a swarm of locusts, an infestation of rats, greedily consuming everything in their path, leaving shit and dregs behind them wherever they go.

Someone, pleas to G'd, tell me how in hell any of the actions of the right are in any way conservative?

I call bullshit on the entire smokescreen, the word, the actions -- locusts, rats, pigs wallowing in their own shit. It's long, long past time to bring the country back to true conservative values; to be careful with our resources, to have something of the land and the air to hand down to future generations; not to tax our great-grandchildren into servitude.

Damn the right. Damn them for what they've done and for what they're yet scheming to do.
