Another Great Gene Lyons Column
"All politicians seek to take credit and avoid blame, but Bush’s shaky legitimacy and manifest intellectual shortcomings led his admirers early on to portray him as king-like and infallible. They’re sticking with it."

1. Sticking with it and sticking it to us
"Bush’s shaky legitimacy and manifest intellectual shortcomings led his admirers early on to portray him as king-like and infallible. They’re sticking with it."

Presidential infallibility? What were they thinking when they set the bar so high for a man who barely staggered up to the bar when it was conveniently set very, very low?

This doesn't show supreme confidence in Bush; it shows supreme confidence in the Bush handlers' ability to bargain with the people who control the media.
