Their Will Be Done - Creating a theocracy in America
A long article but well worth a read.

These religious wackos are frightening!

2. I agree with the author
that the Baptist Church has changed since my childhood. (I was not a Baptist myself, but I had many Baptist friends who took pains to explain why their church was better than my Methodist church and certainly better than the terrible Catholic Church)

When I was a child the Baptists said that they were different from the Catholic Church in these ways: They said that

Members of the Catholic Church had to do what the Pope said. They said that EACH Baptist decided for her/himself what the Bible said.

A Catholic Church had to obey rules of the whole Catholic Church. Each Baptist church made its rules (each church selected its own pastor with no outside influence)

It is so ironic to me that the Southern Baptist Convention has made the Baptist church more like the Catholic church.

3. May be that I am just plain stupid but
I feel religion and the church is one place to go for enlightenment. The only rule that should be followed is the Golden Rule.

i can't think of one time in history that the "church" (established religion) has been enlightened or embraced enlightenment.

on edit: just to be clear, i don't think you are stupid. i do, however, think you are wrong.
