Taking Advantage of the Obama Girls for Profit
I think the action figures of Barack Obama are tacky, and I’ve said so, risking the wrath of the folks at buzzflash, who joked a bit with me. It is wrong to make dolls in the likeness of the Obama girls, evidently without the family’s permission. The dolls are beanie babies. Ty, Inc. needs to rein in its lust for the almighty dollar.

1. Pepsi is riding the Obama wave as well..
American corporations just can't help but exploit any situation.

2. Riding the Obama wave with his image
is one thing. Making a profit off the girls is another thing altogether.

3. Agreed. J. Crew is apparently doing nicely..
over the outfits they provided to them. Disney has also gotten quite a bit of free 'pub.

4. J. Crew is not running commercials, are they?
That would be different. Disney? I'm not familiar with their tie-in. But still, dolls in the likeness of the girls, with their names, and the company is denying it?

5. J. Crew didn't have to..
the press ran the story for them. Disney provided Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers for the inaugural festivities. I heard through the MSM that the girls went on a scavenger hunt at the White House during the balls and at the end the J.B.'s were there to greet them. I don't know what's worse, the outright exploitation or the covert exploitation.

6. Obamas were in control of the Disney thing
They are not in control of the dolls.

7. It's a slippery slope for them I'm afraid..
seems to me it's a bit naive to think you can control it once it starts but thankfully it's not my problem.

8. I'm more sympathetic to Pepsi
If a popular politician has a campaign logo that looks very similar to your logo, it's hard to blame them for taking advantage of that.
