Obama’s approval rating is sinking, and that’s OK
Obama’s nearly euphorically high approval ratings have come down to more realistic levels. There are some on the Right who are experiencing Schadenfreude at this new statistical revelation. I think they would be much less excited if they analyzed why...

1. Another GOP/M$M joint mission accomplished in their eyes
They started on day 2 to attack Obama in an effort to diminish his ability to win re-election in 2012. Yes they are already looking to the next election.

3. He argues that

he is losing some support due to 'the Left" progressives. Looking at this DU board, I tend to agree with him. Lots of disappointments.

He calls himself a progressive.

..............His rating has dropped because of the disapproval, not of moderates and independents, but of the left of his party.

Personally, I think I’d give him about a B. If enough lefties like me feel the same way, that would account for the change in his approval rating.

Obama reached out to the Republicans in Congress with this stimulus bill. He even listened to Republican nagging and removed several of the items they disagreed with. They voted against it anyway. So, to those of us on the left, the concessions weren’t worth it.

Now, he’s still having items removed from the bill to garner Republican support in the Senate. They’ll probably still vote against it after he does anyway. So, why should us lefties be happy that Obama is catering to Republican desires while they continue to be obtuse about the stimulus despite his efforts?

It’s no wonder his approval ratings are going down. Progressives are pissed that Obama is placing so much stock in what Republicans think, when those same Republicans would be just as happy watching the middle and lower class suffer in the clutches of big business.

Many progressives wish for a stimulus that’s much larger and with fewer tax cuts.

4. Placing any stock in what the r's think is a waste of his
time and energy. I think he overestimated the support he'd be able to garner from their quarter because he honestly thought that by reaching out and showing good faith, some, at least, would respond favorably. He had never witnessed the r's up close and personal dealing with a Democratic President, and he must have a short memory because they impeached Clinton over a stain on a dress.
Having wimpy Harry Reid as the Senate Dem. leader is definitely not a plus either.

He probably also underestimated the treatment he'd receive from the corporate media whores who are bought and paid for repuke shills.

Fortunately it's all still very early in the process and Pres. Obama is a quick learner. I expect him to be less conciliatory in the future.

He's got to get back to conveying the impression that he's working from a position of strength. I applauded him when he told the repukes early on "We won." Now he needs to keep reminding them.

5. Obama's decreasing approval rating
is caused by his religion of bipartisanship and compromise. The majority of the American people want him to act decisively to fix the mess that we're in - economically, in the war in Iraq/Afghanistan and our broken constitution. Obama's (and the weak Dems') fear of the filibuster and being seen as "partisan" has compelled them to acquiesce to the Republicans, who by the way - LOST THE GODDAMN ELECTION! That's why Obama's numbers are decreasing.
