On eve of Darwin's 200th birthday, only 39% of Americans believe in evolution
**********

PRINCETON, NJ -- On the eve of 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin's birth, a new Gallup Poll shows that only 39% of Americans say they "believe in the theory of evolution," while a quarter say they do not believe in the theory, and another 36% don't have an opinion either way. These attitudes are strongly related to education and, to an even greater degree, religiosity.

1. Thank god for higher education.
Pretty strong correlation between education and belief.

Still a sore point for me. Just how many stupid people are out there? At least 36% of America, apparently. Along with the 46% that voted for McCain.

2. wrong headline...
It should have been: "On eve of Darwin's 200th birthday, only 39% of Americans understand evolution."

3. I personally have no problem reconciling evolution with my religious beliefs.
It's not a stretch for me to believe the evidence presented that points to evolution while also believing that it was guided by God.

4. Which god would that be?
And how can you know it wasn't that OTHER god that did it? I'm not picking on you, but just trying to make a point.
