It is Time to Leave Bristol Palin Alone
It has long bothered me the way we feel free to talk about Bristol Palin merely because of choices she made. As I now parent an adopted child whose birth mother made some difficult emotional decisions, not unlike those Bristol Palin made, my attitude towards Bristol have changed. Blast Sarah all you wish, but leave Bristol alone.

Is Captain Hilts more descriptive or something?

3. Bristol is an adult and went on tv of her own volition in an INTERVIEW.
She is fair game now.

12. Yes and no. At this point she might be just trying to stop some of the crap being flung her way.
She's collateral damage from a lot of the stuff thrown at her mother.

As an adult public figure she has opened herself up to public criticism, so have at it, folks.

15. And a fat lot of luck she had getting between Mother Sarah and the camera.....
Sarah didn't jump up on the table to show off her Come-Fuck-Me pumps, but I halfway expected her to.

What decent mother would bust in like this on a daughter trying to do something useful in the world? No wonder Bristol revolted by going out and getting laid.

30. Unlike Octomom,
she didn't seek the camera in the first place. She was adjacent to a target and had various rumors spread about her and a lot of criticism hurled her way.

As with many politicians' kids, she was a prop. That may not have been her choice. Making her a target wasn't her choice, to be sure, but was the choice of many.

Personally, I don't need to sneer at people to feel good about myself. My self worth isn't based upon putting people down but evaluating myself against a standard that I've arrived at. Many on the left and the right can only think they're decent people, apparently, by comparing themselves with stereotypes and warped representations they make of other people. I wish it weren't so and I keep trying to deny the evidence.

4. I've been saying that from the git-go.
People in political life, fine--have a field day.

"Collateral" folks? No. They should not be forced to endure "collateral damage" because they happen to have a relative who is ambitious. This goes for Palin's kids, Bush's kids (bad behavior and all), and Obama's kids. A little comment is one thing, the endless vituperation, though, is way over the top and uncalled for.

5. I would agree except for one thing
she seems to have decided to go on this little media tour. If she wanted to be left alone, why would she do that? I certainly agree that there is reason to "blast" her, but I don't think it should be out of bounds to discuss her choices if she is in fact discussing them herself in the media. Naturally, her mother's obvious hypocrisy is fair game--blast away.

Therefore we will comment on her.

7. Public figures are fair game
Bristol has chosen to be a public figure by agreeing to TV interviews. Prior to that, Sarah made her a public figure. She is also an adult.

Underage children are not fair game even if their idiot mother makes them a public figure.

20. I disagree - if we're not allowed to examine a candidate's morals by how her/his kids are
turning out then let's why don't we Democrats just continue to close our eyes like we did, so we could continue the Republican Revolution that brought us to disaster?

23. Peoples morals cannot be evaluated by the mistakes their children make
Where did you get THAT idea???

You think Al Gore's morality can be assessed by his son's lack of judgment?

You think the Menendez brothers, who killed their unsuspecting parents and partied hearty on the inheritance, provide a good estimate of mom's and dad's moral integrity?

Please.

Here's how to judge a politician's morality: by what that politician says and does.

There, took care of that for ya. ;-)

8. I've never attacked the child - I've attacked the mother's raising of the child -
The mother is a liar, a cheat, a thief, but pretends to be holy, which is why, in the face of claiming she taught her daughter well, the daughter went, picked a redneck with a 50 I.Q. and got pregnant by him... TWICE? Or was the first one the mother's? Who knows. This woman has more skeletons in her closet than any cemetery.

inviting the notion that Democrats are ugly. But beyond that, read the article. I think this mostly for personal reasons, as well as reasons that involve the dignity of women.
